Summer Camp at LeXT Robo Academy in Agoura Hills - Weeks of June 17-21, July 8-12, August 5-9

LeXT Robo Academy at 29039 Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Agoura Hills, is offering its fantastic robotics, coding, LEGO and other STEM-based learning concepts this summer for ages ranging from 3 to 15.

Camp dates are the weeks of June 17-21, July 8-12 and August 5-9, 2019 from 9am to noon. Cost is $225/week or $45/day (minimum 3 days).

2019 Regency Theatres Kids $2 Summer Movie Series June 18 through August 8 in Agoura, Ventura

Regency Theatres is hosting a Kids Summer Movie Series at locations in Agoura Hills and Ventura, featuring popular kids' films, all rated PG, every Tuesday & Thursday at 10:30 am.  Doors open at 10:00 am. 2019 City of Agoura Hills Summer Concerts in the Park - June through August

The City of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services and The Acorn Newspapers are pleased to announce the 2019 Summer Concerts in the Park series.

All concerts will begin at 6:00 p.m. and (except for July 21st) are held at Chumash Park, located at 5550 Medea Valley Dr. in Agoura Hills.  Concerts are free to the public. The concert on July 21st will take place at the Agoura High School PAEC, 28545 Driver Avenue.

Summer Programs at Agoura Hills Library

Agoura Hills Library, part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system, is offering a fun-filled summer of activities for kids of all ages!

The library will be offering its popular Music N’ Motion program for babies and toddlers every Friday morning at 9:30 am. This is an interactive emerging literacy program of live banjo music, songs and nursery rhymes and lots of activity! 

Smarty Pants Storytime for kids age 2 to 5 years old will be offered every Wednesday morning at 11 am beginning June 19th and ending on July 26th. Join us for stories, music, finger plays and an art activity. No need to sign-up. Just come on in!

The Summer Discovery Program will feature fun programs, such as:

  • Jun 10 7PM - Movie Night - Mary Poppins Returns (PG) - Join us for a screening of the updated classic, starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Mary Poppins returns during Michael’s most desperate hour to lend him a helping hand. With his house in danger of being repossessed, she whips up a little magic to remind him of the importance of family. Refreshments will be served. Ages 12 and up.

  • Fri Jun 14 3:30-4:15PM - Father’s Day Cardmaking - ages 4 to 12

  • Tue Jun 18 4-5PM - Puppet Show “Three Little Pigs: The Puppet Musical!” ages 5-12

  • Wed Jun 19 4-5PM - Makmo for Teens: Bee Hotels - Unlike honey bees that live in large hives, mason bees live alone and need places to shelter and lay their eggs. They also pollinate more plants than honey bees do and are less likely to sting you! So, become a friend to these helpful bees and learn how to build a bee hotel for your garden. For ages 12 to 18

  • Tue Jun 25 4-5PM - Music Show - Children’s songwriter Nathalia Palis uses a creative bilingual approach to engage families in an interactive musical performance. For ages 5 – 12.

  • Wed Jun 26 4-5PM - Teen Summer Art Activity: Melted Was Painting - In celebration of LGBT Pride Month, come to the library to melt some crayons into rainbow art!” For ages 12 to 18.

  • Thu Jun 27 3:30-4:30PM - MAKMO - The makermobile visits with fun STEAM-based activities. For ages 5 – 12.

  • Mon Jul 1 5-7PM - Summer Movie: Top Hat - Kick off the summer with this 1935 Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire classic, as an American dancer comes to Britain and falls for a model whom he initially annoyed, but she mistakes him for his goofy producer. Movie is not rated. For ages 12 and up.

  • Wed Jul 3 4-5PM - Teen Summer Art - DIY Notebooks - Your library is full of books! Learn a little history of the book while creating your own notebook, sketch pad, or personal journal using tools that embrace early bookbinding methods. Using a needle and thread, we will walk through the steps of creating your own bound book which you can decorate to suit your very own style! For ages 12 to 18.

  • Wed Jul 17 4-5PM - Adult 101 for Teens: Car Maintenance - You got your first car! How do you maintain it? What are some tools you should have for your car? Stop by to learn basic car maintenance tips and what you can do to keep your car running smoothly for years to come. For ages 12 – 18.

  • Mon Jul 22 5-7PM - Summer Movie: Sunset Boulevard - In this classic 1950 film, a screenwriter is hired to rework a faded silent film star’s script, only to find himself developing a dangerous relationship. Movie is not rated. For ages 12 and up.

  • Wed Jul 24 4-5PM - Teen Summer Art Activity: Bookish Book Bags - Looking for something new to read? Want to recommend your favorite book to a new friend? Come to the library to talk about new books and old favorites and then make a bookish book bag to take home all your new books. Supplies are limited.   • Sat Jul 27 11am-Noon - Adult SRP: Line Dancing at the Library - Line Dancing instructor, Candy Sherwin, will help us close out the summer by teaching a few basic dances. All skill levels welcome! For adults.

  • Wed Jul 31 4-5PM: Teen Summer STEM Activity: Lava Lamps - Join us to flex your STEM skills and create your own lava lamp! Supplies are limited. Sign-up at the Information Desk or by calling the library at 818.889.2278. For teens 12 to 18.

Sat 6/30, 10/26, 11/24, 12/28 - Welcome Walk at Malibu Creek State Park 10am to 12:30pm - Join a docent for a refreshing walk along Malibu Creek, through a wooded valley. Learn about fire restoration, plus the park’s animals, plants, early inhabitants, and movies filmed on location. Meet at the Main Trailhead parking lot (second, lower lot) by the restrooms.

Sun 6/16, 7/21, 8/18, 9/15, 10/20, 11/17, 12/15, 1/19/20, 2/16, 3/15, 4/19, 5/17, 6/21, 7/19 8am to 11:30am - San Fernando Valley Audubon Bird Walk at Malibu Creek State Park - Considered the recreational crown jewel of the Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu Creek State Park has over 8,000 acres of rolling tall grass plains, oak savannahs and dramatic peaks. It’s no wonder many call it “The Yosemite of Southern California.” Seasoned birders and beginners alike will enjoy good bird watching and a beautiful, easy hike. Meet at the second (lower) day-use parking lot. Entrance to the park is on the west side of Las Virgenes Rd., just south of Mulholland Hwy. Entrance fee is $12 per car.

Sat 7/6, 8/3, 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7, 1/4/20, 2/1 8:30-10am - Birds of the Santa Monica Mountains Walk at King Gillette Ranch - Bring your binoculars, bird guide, and/or camera and join us for an easy bird walk around the grounds of King Gillette Ranch. This area attracts many songbirds, water birds, woodpeckers, and raptors and we are always treated to something interesting. Kids are welcome and the walk is less than a mile at a very easy pace as we stop often to observe the birds. We leave promptly at 8:30 from the flagpole. Heavy rain cancels (but I will be there for anyone who wants to walk in it!). See you there!

Sat 6/15 7-8:30pm - Chumash Songs and Stories at Rancho Sierra Vista - Enjoy the sunset at Rancho Sierra Vista while the Chief of the Southern Clan of the Chumash will be sharing his cultural background and history. Chief Ted Garcia will be sharing and performing Chumash songs and stories at the Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center. This program is for all ages. There are no reservations required for this program. Please wear layers for changing weather conditions and bring a flashlight. Also, feel free to bring camping chairs for comfortableness. The main parking lot entrance is at the intersection of Via Goleta and Potrero Rd, Newbury Park. 805-370-2301.

Tue 6/25 8am - 5 Mile Hike at Paramount Ranch - Moderately paced 5 mile, 400 ft gain hike around the old (and still active) movie set and environs of oak savannas, Medea Creek, chaparral canyons, including a side trip to the old Reagan Ranch. See what’s being done after the Wolsey Fire. Meet 8:00 AM at Paramount Ranch parking lot. From 101 Ventura Fwy take Kanan Rd exit, go south on Kanan Rd ½ mile, turn left on Cornell Way and veer to right continuing south 2½ miles to Paramount Ranch entrance on right. Bring water, snack, lugsoles, hat, sunscreen. Rain cancels.

Sat 7/20 6-7:30pm - Flute Music Cultural Demonstration at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa - Enjoy the evening sunset as we listen to the inspirational flute music from Apache flautist, Eric “Medicine Wind” Alvarado. There are no reservations required to attend this evening program. Please wear layers for changing weather conditions and bring a flashlight. Feel free to bring camping chairs, or blankets for comfortableness. All ages welcome. 805-370-2301.

Sat 8/17 6-7:30pm - Native American Dance Demonstration at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa - Kathy Willcuts and Steven Garcia will perform traditional Native American dance, including Northern Traditional and shawl dancing. Steven Garcia is of Yaqui-Mescalero, Tongva descent and will be performing Northern Traditional style. Kathy Willcuts will be performing traditional Shawl dancing from her Rosebud Lakota tribe. Each dance demonstration will have a brief explanation of the meaning of the dance. Turtle Island Singers drum group will be performing for the dancers that evening. Steven and Kathy are dedicated presenters at the Satwiwa Culture Center. They each present various workshops throughout the year.

Cheeseboro/Palo Comado Canyons: Ventura Fwy (101) to Chesebro Rd exit. Turn north on Palo Comado Canyon Rd then right on Chesebro Rd. Go north 1 mile to park entrance. Turn right and follow road to parking lot.

Peter Strauss Ranch is located at 30000 Mulholland Highway, Agoura Hills.

Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa: Ventura Fwy (101) to Lynn Rd exit. South on Lynn Rd 5.25 miles to Via Goleta. Park entrance is on the left at Via Goleta. Continue all the way to a parking lot where the road ends. To get to the Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center, walk 0.3 mile up gravel road from the parking area to brown wooden building. 

Wendy Trailhead: Ventura Fwy (101) to Wendy Dr. exit. South on Wendy Dr to dirt pullout at intersection with Potrero Rd.

Santa Monica Mountains Interagency Visitor Center at King Gillette Ranch: From Ventura Fwy (101): Exit Las Virgenes Rd. Go 3 miles south on Las Virgenes Rd to Mulholland Hwy intersection (traffic light). Turn left on Mulholland Hwy. Go 0.1 mile and turn right into entrance of King Gillette Ranch. The visitor center is the first building on your right. 26867 Mulholland Highway, Calabasas.

Tiny Porch Concerts at Peter Strauss Ranch May to September 2019

In cooperation with the National Park Service, Tiny Porch Concerts will be presenting “Summer Concerts at Peter Strauss Ranch**.”  Set among the giant oak trees in Agoura Hills Canyon, the historic ranch is the venue for five, free concerts, running monthly from May through September. Music starts at 5pm, except the Sept 7th show that starts at 6pm. Limited seating available.

The Peter Strauss Ranch is easily accessible, nestled in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains off Mulholland Highway in Agoura Hills. There is limited free parking, so carpooling or using Uber  or Lyft is recommended.  Concert goers will be encouraged to bring their own blankets or low-back chairs, picnic during the concerts, and explore the ranch.   

VIP ticket holders have reserved seating areas and chairs within the quaint amphitheater.  Individual show VIP tickets and season passes for all five concerts are available. General admission is free, however, to help support the National Park Service and performers, guests will be asked for donations.
