10th Annual Mike Nosco Memorial Bicycle Ride in Newbury Park on Saturday, November 3, 2018

The 10th Annual 80 Mile Mike Nosco Memorial Bike Ride will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018, starting at 8 a.m. at Borchard Park, 250 N. Reino Road, Newbury Park.

This annual event is organized by Jack Nosco in honor of his brother, Mike Nosco, who was killed in a tragic car accident on November 3, 2004. On that night, Nosco headed down the Conejo Grade from Newbury Park and northbound on Las Posas Rd, just north of Laguna Road at the wide bend in the road, when a farm truck and trailer with no lights decided to pull in front of his truck. Mike slammed on the brakes, came to a screeching halt, but his truck crashed into the back left corner of the trailer. His truck slid under the trailer and he was crushed.

Mike loved to serve our country and was in the Navy for 20 years. He was part of a very special elite unit, HCS-5 (helicopter combat support). In 2004, Mike was scheduled to be deployed to serve his third term in Iraq. Mike started serving the community at a young age, starting as a Boy Scout reaching the rank of Eagle Scout for Troop 730 in Newbury Park.

Shortly after his death, Jack hopped on his bike and rode "the course," wallowing in misery every year since the passing of his brother...until he decided to turn the day around. In Mike's memory, Jack decided he wanted to give back like Mike would have and in 2009 started the 1st Annual Mike Nosco Memorial Bicycle Ride.

The ride has become quite popular and has attracted some top notch cyclists. But most importantly, proceeds from the event are used to provide financial relief to families and individuals in need in our local community.
