There’s nothing wrong with enjoying an occasional donut, cupcake or pastry as long as they are consumed in moderation. And moderation for me is a dozen donuts. Bakeries

Billy Bread is a small-batch home bakery in Newbury Park that has operated since September 2020. Everything is baked to order on Fridays. The sourdough loaves are naturally leavened with no commercial yeast, and the menu also includes Japanese-style milk bread, sourdough focaccia, sourdough chocolate chip cookies, and seasonal specials. Baking No More

Cake Monkey Bakery at 2805 Agoura Road in Agoura Hills closed in September 2019, just 13 month after opening in August 2018.

E. T. Donuts in the Oakbrook Plaza in Thousand Oaks closed its doors 3/1/21.

Flatiron Bagel at 1817 Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks in the Oak Leaf Square is officially closed as of April 2021.

The beloved Chocolatine French Cafe at 2955 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Thousand Oaks, served its last croissant on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

Karma Baker opened in the Pavilions Plaza at the southwest corner of Lindero and Kanan in October 2014 and closed its doors on March 30, 2024.

Sprinkles Cupcakes was located at The Promenade at Westlake from October 2013 until it closed its doors in late January 2025. One of my favorite treat places when the kids were little.

Itala Magdalena Bakery opened on the 2nd floor of The Oaks Mall (east side, top of the escalator, near Macy’s) in July 2021 and closed in late 2025.

Crumbl Cookies at The Shoppes at Westlake Village opened in May 2022 and closed in August 2026.

The star of the Halloween show is the pumpkin. According to my favorite resource Wikipedia, the name pumpkin originated from the ancient Greek word pepon ("large melon"). The French called it pompom. The British changed it to pumpion. Then American colonists changed it to pumpkin.

Pumpkins are gourd-like squashes and technically are a fruit. They can range in size from 1 lb to 1,000 lbs.

But who cares about all that...what we REALLY want to know is, where are the pumpkin patches in Ventura County and surrounding areas for the 2026 fall season!? Well, here are some choices...but make sure to call before you go for hours, etc.

The 2026 Underwood Family Farms Fall Harvest Festival in Moorpark is back from September 26 to October 31 at 3370 Sunset Valley Road. Admission includes huge pumpkin patch, tractor-drawn wagon rides, corn maze, giant tractor display, hay pyramids, animal center, and many other family-friendly activities. Themed weekend events include animal shows, pig races, live performers, roaming entertainment and more. Weekday admission is $16 at the gate only.
