Bakeries, Cupcake Places and Donut Shops in the Conejo Valley

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying an occasional donut, cupcake or pastry as long as they are consumed in moderation. And moderation for me is a dozen donuts. So on that nutritional note, we’ve compiled a list of local area bakeries and donut shops in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills for those of you looking to expanded your baked good horizons.

Cafe Ficelle Boulangerie & Patisserie opened its doors on April 9, 2024 at 1710 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks. La Casa Del Pan Dulce Panaderia opened in the spring of 2026 at 1362 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. Same owners as the adjacent Siesta Market.

Le Macaron French Pastries is now open at Janss Marketplace, in the small space to the right of Old Navy, across from The Mighty Axe. Mamolo’s Fine Pastries & Coffee Bar (formerly Viktor Benês Bakery) is located inside Gelson’s Markets at 2734 Townsgate Road, Westlake Village (805-496-0045) and 1736 E. Sweet Arlene’s is located in the Westlake Plaza at 960 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village. We are not lacking a variety of donut shops in the Conejo Valley - Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Oak Park and Agoura Hills.

Mochinut is coming soon to the Ventu Park Shopping Center (anchored by Ralph’s) at 587 Ventu Park Road in Newbury Park. Mochinut offers mochi donuts, which have a chewy texture and are made with rice flour. They also offer crispy Korean rice corn dogs and drinks such as smoothies, coffee and matcha. www.mochinut.com

Baking No More

Cake Monkey Bakery at 2805 Agoura Road in Agoura Hills closed in September 2019, just 13 month after opening in August 2018.

E. T. Donuts in the Oakbrook Plaza in Thousand Oaks closed its doors 3/1/21.

Flatiron Bagel at 1817 Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks in the Oak Leaf Square is officially closed as of April 2021.

The beloved Chocolatine French Cafe at 2955 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Thousand Oaks, served its last croissant on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

Karma Baker opened in the Pavilions Plaza at the southwest corner of Lindero and Kanan in October 2014 and closed its doors on March 30, 2024.

Sprinkles Cupcakes was located at The Promenade at Westlake from October 2013 until it closed its doors in late January 2025. One of my favorite treat places when the kids were little.

Itala Magdalena Bakery opened on the 2nd floor of The Oaks Mall (east side, top of the escalator, near Macy’s) in July 2021 and closed in late 2025.

Coffee Shops in the Conejo Valley

According to the National Coffee Association in its Spring 2024 National Coffee Data Trends report, 67% of Americans have had coffee in the past day, compared to 49% in 2004. The greatest increase is among consumers 60+, whose past day consumption increased by 9%. Consumers in the 25 to 59 age groups also saw increases in consumption. 57% of American adults had a specialty coffee in the past week, up 7.5% one year prior.

On that caffeinated note, let’s take a look at what coffee shops we have here in the Conejo Valley, covering Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Oak Park and parts of Calabasas.

Five07 Coffee Bar and Eatery is located near Vons in the Oakbrook Shopping Center at 2036 E Avenida de los Árboles, Thousand Oaks. Five07 Coffee Bar opened at 2955 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks (between Bad Ass Street Tacos and Oak and Iron), on December 29, 2023. Hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mon-Fri and 7am-2pm Sat/Sun (as of July 2026). This location is geared towards takeout, with limited seating and a standing bar. www.thefive07.com

Honey Cup Coffeehouse & Creamery is located at 360 Via Las Brisas in the Dos Vientos section of Newbury Park. Honey Cup serves coffee, tea, and smoothies. Honey Cup Coffeehouse & Patisserie opened on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 5755 Las Virgenes Road, Suite B in Calabasas, next to Inner Power Yoga Studio, which is about a mile north of the 101.

Laidrey Coffee Roasters is open daily from 7am to 5pm (as of July 2026) at the Shoppes at Kanan Village in Agoura Hills (across from IHOP) at 5021 Kanan Road. They are known for their specialty, organic, small-batch roasted coffee, pastries, and curated coffee products. laidrey.com

Laidrey Coffee Roasters announced on July 23, 2026 that it will be opening a 2nd Conejo Valley location, in the City of Thousand Oaks. Specific address TBA but they are working towards a late 2026 / early 2027 grand opening for this new location. laidrey.com

Longevity Coffee is located in the Skyline Center at 2849 Thousand Oaks Blvd in Thousand Oaks. Longevity offers low acid, freshly roasted, certified organic coffee and shakes, smoothies, Longevity Sodas and ore. Food items offered include toasts, acai bowls, oatmeal, baked goods and more. Ragamuffin Coffee Roasters is located in the CVS/Trader Joe’s strip mall at 111 N. Reino Road (at Borchard) in Newbury Park. Ragamuffin offers espresso/coffee drinks, tea/non-coffee drinks and a selection of food items such as avocado toast, frittatas and baked goods (including gluten-free options). Entropy Coffee & Tea is located on the 2nd floor of The Oaks Mall (east side, just an escalator ride from Starbucks). It opened in late 2025. Possible Dutch Bros Coffee: On 8/14/25, a proposed project was submitted to the City of Thousand Oaks for a 1,025 sq ft Dutch Bros Coffee drive-thru location in the northwest corner of Hillcrest Drive and Conejo Blvd within the Janss Marketplace parking lot. The application is under review. Stay tuned for updates.

And how could we not forget Starbucks, with over 40,000 stores in 80 countries. Starbucks currently has 22 locations in the Conejo Valley, including numerous locations inside supermarkets literally across the parking lot from stand-alone locations.

Boney Mountain Coffee Co. in the Dos Vientos section of Newbury Park closed in August 2013 and became BeanoVino, which subsequently closed in January 2020, then later reopened as Honeycup Coffeehouse & Creamery in August 2021.

Bean Crazy Coffee in Thousand Oaks closed in January 2017.

Green & Bean Coffee in Oak Park closed in early 2017, later reopening as Cafe Sapientia.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at 487 N. Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks closed in June 2020.

Peet’s Coffee at the North Ranch Mall in Westlake Village closed in October 2020. This short-lived location opened in April 2019 and the location is now occupied by Nick the Greek.

Compilation of Pizza Places in the Conejo Valley

The first pizzeria in the United States opened in Little Italy, New York City, in 1905. Lombardi’s is recognized as that first pizzeria, specializing in Neapolitan pizza, which is made with tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. Margherita pizza is a typical Neapolitan pizza with tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, fresh basil and extra-virgin olive oil.

Other varieties of pizza include New York thin-crust style, Chicago style (deep dish, thick crust), Detroit style (rectangular, thick crust, sauce on top) and Sicilian (square cut) and others.

According to Pew Research Center analysis published in 2024, approximately 11% of restaurants in the United States serve Mexican food. Though Mexican restaurants are present in 85% of U.S. counties overall, nearly 40% of all Mexican restaurants in the country are in California (22%) and Texas (17%). Based on data from March 2023, Los Angeles County had 5,484 Mexican eateries; imagine, it would take you over 15 years to try one of these eateries every day.

So, here we have compiled a list of Mexican eateries in the Conejo Valley, which stretches over portions of both Ventura and Los Angeles counties and includes Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Oak Park and Calabasas, west of the Calabasas Grade. Adios Burritos (Mexican Eateries That Have Closed Over the Years

The historic Lupe’s Mexican Restaurant in Thousand Oaks closed its doors on August 29, 2016, after serving the Conejo Valley for 69 years.

Two historic Mexican eateries operated at 159 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd (now The Tipsy Goat), including Casita Valdez from 1961 to 1979 and Enrique’s Mexican Restaurant from 1979 to 2009.

Letty’s Mexican Food at 2454 Hillcrest Drive in Newbury Park was a local favorite for over 20 years, until it closed in April 2015.

Mejico Grill & Tequila Lounge opened at 29008 Agoura Road in Agoura Hills in September 2018 but closed in February 2021 after a fire. Still closed as of June 2025.

Loteria Grill at The Promenade at Westlake opened in April 2012 and closed in February 2017.

Cisco’s Mexican Restaurant Westlake Village closed its doors in February 2018.

Sabor Cocina Mexicana operated at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks from August 2010 to March 2020.

Casa Escobar closed its doors at 2809 Agoura Road, Westlake Village on September 10, 2016 after six years at that location.

Julio’s Agave Grill operated at 2809 Agoura Road, Westlake Village, in the former Casa Escobar location, from November 19, 2018 to July 1, 2023.

Rubio’s Newbury Park served its last fish taco in January 2019, after over eight years in operation. It also had a location at Janss Marketplace at one point.

Casita Valdez operated 159 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks from 1961 to 1979, when it changed ownership and became Enrique’s Mexican Restaurant until 2009.

El Torito closed its Thousand Oaks location on Moorpark Road on January 24, 2012, a sad day in history.

Freebirds World Burrito operated in Agoura Hills from 2011 to 2016.

Chuy’s previously operated in Thousand Oaks on Moorpark Road (Whole Foods Plaza) but closed in 2011. It also had a location in Agoura Hills at Kanan and Agoura Road.

Margaritas Mexican Grill in Oak Park opened in April 2015 and closed in late summer 2024 for a nine year run.

According to the Michelin Guide, although sushi existed in American in the early 1900s, the first “real” sushi restaurant, Kawafuku, opened in Los Angeles in 1966. Since then, according to market research firm IBISWorld, there were nearly 17,000 sushi restaurants in the U.S. in 2024.

Separately, approximately 4-5% of the U.S. adult population identifies as pescatarian. A pescatarian diet is a vegetarian whose diet also includes fish and seafood ad the only source of meat. Pescetarian is a portmanteau of the Italian word “pesce” (fish) and the English word “vegetarian” that was coined in the U.K. in the late 1980s.
