Las Flores Creek Park in Malibu

Las Flores Creek Park at 3805 Las Flores Canyon Road in Malibu is a neighborhood pocket park with on-site parking, picnic tables, restrooms, a small playground, benches, a pedestrian bridge, and over one-third of a mile of walking trails. The park also has over 45 varieties of native plant species and interpretive signage throughout the park with information about the plants, riparian habitat, the creek stabilization project, and the history of the area. More at www.malibucity.org.

Sessions at the Loft in Old Town Camarillo

Sessions at the Loft is a performance/recording space located at 2465 Ventura Boulevard in Old Town Camarillo. It also serves as an art gallery and is available for rent for meetings, parties, performances and screening for up to 40 guests.  The venue also opens to the public for periodic concerts, art/photo exhibits and other events. Downtown Ventura Harbor Trolley - NO LONGER IN SERVICE MARCH 2019

THE DOWNTOWN VENTURA HARBOR TROLLEY TERMINATED ITS SERVICE IN MARCH 2019

The Downtown Ventura-Harbor Trolley provided free transportation year-round, Wednesday through Sunday from 11am to 11pm. 

The trolley route is about an hour in total, with stops at:

  • Amtrak/Fairgrounds on Harbor Blvd

  • Ventura Visitors and Convention Bureau in Downtown Ventura

  • San Buenaventura Mission / Museum of Ventura County

  • Pierpont Blvd at South Seaward Ave

  • Ventura Harbor Village

The trolley will also pick up at Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach, Pierpont Inn, Ventura Beach Marriott and Four Points by Sheraton/Holiday Inn.

Zev Yaroslavsky Las Virgenes Highlands Park in Calabasas

The Zev Yaroslavsky Las Virgenes Highlands Park is located on Las Virgenes Road, just south of Mureau Road and north of Highway 101 in Calabasas. Acquired in 2010, this area includes nearly 200 acres of open space providing a gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains and a welcome site to drivers navigating bottom of the Calabasas Grade on Highway 101.  Stop by sometime and take a hike up the moderately steep path through grasslands and oak trees to catch panoramic views of the surrounding areas. Conejo Recreation & Park District - Thousand Oaks

The Conejo Recreation and Park Districthas served the Conejo Valley since 1963 and covers 66 square miles with a population of over 140,000 people in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and the Ventura County portion of Westlake Village. 

The Recreation Division conducts over 3,000 organized recreation and leisure programs each year.  The Parks Division maintains over 50 parks, over 1,000 acres with a variety of recreation amenities, including tot-lots, lighted sports fields, picnic areas, and community centers.  Additionally, the Parks and Planning Division, through the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA), maintains approximately 15,000 acres of open space and a 140-mile multi-use trail system including a disabled accessible trail segment on Oak Creek Canyon.

CRPD releases its Recreation Program Guide four times a year (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) and has hundreds if not thousands of activities for adults, seniors, kids and teens.

Lake Shrine Meditation Gardens in Pacific Palisades

The Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine was dedicated by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1950. This is a 10 acre spiritual sanctuary located at 17190 Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades, about 25 miles from the Conejo Valley.

The beautiful site hosts a natural spring-fed lake along with gardens, swans, ducks, koi and trees and flowers from around the world.

The grounds include a Court of Religions honoring the five principal religions of the world, the Mahatma Gandhi World Peace Memorial where a portion of Gandhi's ashes is enshrined, a museum with exhibits on Paramahansa Yogananda's work, and a gift shop with arts and crafts from India.

The temple itself is on a hilltop overlooking the lake. A beautiful and peaceful place indeed.

The Gardens and Lake are open Tuesday - Saturday: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and Sunday: 12:00 noon to 4:30 pm (closed on Monday)

California Dance Theatre / Pacific Festival Ballet

California Dance Theatre (CDT) of Agoura Hills was founded in 1985. With five studios spanning over 10,000 square feet, and over 30 teachers on staff, CDT instructs students of all ages and levels — from children to adults, beginners to professionals — in ballet, lyrical, contemporary, modern, tap, musical theatre, jazz, acro and hip-hop. 

CDT's Pacific Festival Ballet is the resident ballet company of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Bank of America Performing Arts Plaza.

Trails in the Conejo Open Space

The Conejo Open Space Foundation was formed in 1995 to promote and maintain the open space and trail system of the Conejo Valley and to educate residents as to their roles as custodians and protectors of the open space and the environment. COSF is a non-profit organization that is supported by donations.

The COSF website has detailed information about Conejo Valley trails, maps and educational information.

A particularly useful section of the site details a number of local trails in Wildwood Park, Los Robles, Lang Ranch/Woodridge, Dos Vientos and other local trail systems.
