The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) will debut its new “America 250” exhibition, marking two and a half centuries of American independence. This once-in-a-generation exhibition, opening on May 22, 2026, serves as both a reflection and a celebration of America’s story. Must-see items on display include John Trumbull’s “The Declaration of Independence” painting, a cannon used in a pivotal moment of the Battle of Gettysburg, and Benedict Arnold’s written Oath of Allegiance to the United States, which he later betrayed.
The exhibition pairs treasured artifacts with historical narratives, telling stories of the Founding Fathers alongside stories of lesser-known Americans whose grit and determination moved the nation forward. From the Revolution to the Reagan era, this exhibition showcases the defining moments of the past 250 years, highlighting how every generation has been called to defend our liberties, strengthen civic life, expand opportunity, and uphold America’s defining principles.
In this exhibition, the American story is told through artwork, letters and historical objects, some displayed on the West Coast for the very first time. Highlights include:
Paintings from John Trumbull's Revolutionary Series, including “The Declaration of Independence”;
A Gettysburg Civil War cannon, used in one of the most pivotal moments of the battle;
Benedict Arnold’s Oath of Allegiance to the United States;
Alexander Hamilton's gold mourning ring containing a lock of George Washington's hair (only on display through June 19, 2026);
George Washington’s surveyor tools and glasses (only on display through June 19, 2026);
An American flag that was flown on the Apollo 11 mission;
William J. Stone’s engraving of the Declaration of Independence;
Lincoln’s “I Would Save the Union” letter;
John Hancock’s letter to Elbridge Gerry from the night of Paul Revere’s ride;
A letter giving an account of the Battle of Bunker Hill;
Thomas Jefferson’s glasses and inkwell and pen;
A three-volume set of “A Defence of the Constitutions of Government of the United States”, inscribed by John Adams to Alexandre, Duc de La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt;
A 1776 edition of Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense”;
Revolutionary War officer’s uniform and spouse’s dress;
An 18th-century American flag.
Beyond this exhibition, RRPFI is honoring America’s historic birthday through a year-long series of events. This includes specialized Reagan Education programming focused on the founding, an expanded annual Fourth of July celebration, and a commemorative “America 250” Concert in partnership with New West Symphony on June 27, 2026.
