Mahina Sushi Now Open in Newbury Park at Former Tomodachi Sushi

Tomodachi Sushi in Newbury Park is under new ownership and is now called Mahina Sushi, located at 771 Wendy Drive (Conejo Gateway Plaza). Mahina, which means moon, 'serves "fresh fish, over thirty signature rolls, and a little bit of aloha on every plate."

Capri Trattoria and Pizzeria Coming Soon to Thousand Oaks

The Marcello Ristorante sign is gone and the windows are covered at 140 W. Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks. The new eatery assigned the on-site beer and wine permit is Capri Trattoria and Pizzeria. State licensing records list Nando Silvestri as a member and managing member of the permit holder, Tutto Bene Restaurant Group, LLC. Silvestri also owns Spumoni Pizza Restaurant in Santa Monica.

Poke & K-Roll Now Open in Camarillo

Poke & K-Roll soft-opened two days ago at 455 Carmen Drive in Camarillo's Carmen Plaza, taking over the former Poke U & Me location.

For those unfamiliar with K-rolls, they are based on kimbap (also spelled gimbap), a popular Korean dish made with rice seasoned with sesame oil, wrapped in seaweed, and filled with ingredients such as bulgogi, egg, vegetables, and pickled radishes, and also crab meat, spicy tuna, avocado, etc. @pokenkroll on Instagram or call 805-482-9812

Shooby's Opened in April in Camarillo at the Former Freda's

Yes, it’s August and realized we never mentioned that Shooby’s opened at 2024 Ventura Blvd in Old Town Camarillo in late April in the Freda’s Pizza and Woodfired Kitchen that announced its closure, after six years in Camarillo, on April 10th.

Savta Restaurant Coming Soon to The Lakes at Thousand Oaks

Savta is planned for The Lakes, next to Sora Handroll Bar, which is also coming soon.

Savta opened at The Original Farmers Market next to The Grove in Los Angeles in February 2025. The menu features wood-fired pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, brunch items, and other California and French-inspired dishes. "Savta" means "grandmother" in Hebrew, and the restaurant says it was named in honor of the owner's grandmother and her influence on the family's cooking traditions.
