Mama's Hummus to Close Newbury Park Location on February 28; Camarillo Still Open

The owners of Mama’s Hummus have announced that they will be closing their original Newbury Park location in the Conejo Gateway Plaza (779 N. Wendy Drive) on Wednesday, February 28th. This location has served the Conejo Valley since February 20, 2014.

The good news is that the Camarillo location, which opened on August 9, 2015, is still in business and owners Naji and Suzanne would love to see you stop by. Located just five miles away, down the Conejo Grade, at 5021 Verdugo Way, near Camarillo High School. If you’re looking for delicious, homemade kabobs, shawarma, hummus and other Mediterranean specialties, Mama’s Hummus is worth going out of your way for.

Cedro Italian Restaurant in Newbury Park is Now Open

Temporary sign is up; I’m sure at some point we’ll see a permanent sign.

Cedro Italian Restaurant opened on January 18th at 2385 Michael Drive in Newbury Park, in the former home of Stella’s. Initially open for dinner nightly (closed Mondays), they indicate at some point there will be lunch service.

This new eatery was founded by three Italian friends, inspired by their shared heritage and their grandparents’ love for cedro plants. Check out their menu at www.cedrorestaurant.com.

Stella's Gourmet Restaurant in Newbury Park Appears to be Closed - New Italian Restaurant Coming

A month ago there was a sign up indicating Stella’s Gourmet Restaurant at 2385 Michael Drive in Newbury Park was undergoing renovations. Today, that sign is gone, and the Stella’s sign has been taken down.

Stella’s opened its doors in 1981. The beloved original owner, Stella Scholle, passed away in November 2013. The eatery changed ownership several times since then.

There’s a new sign in the window indicating Cedro Italian Restaurant is opening soon. Learn more at www.cedrorestaurant.com..

The Waffle Experience Newbury Park to Rebrand as Honey & Herb Belgian Waffle House on Friday, December 22nd

The Waffle Experience in the Conejo Gateway Plaza at 765 Wendy Drive in Newbury Park has announced that it will be re-branding as the Honey & Herb Belgian Waffle House @honeyandherbwaffles on Instagram on Friday, December 22nd. There will be a launch event on Friday, December 22nd from 4-7pm - see bit.ly/HandHEvent or visit their IG page for the link. I'm told the menu will be similar. They are still open in the meantime. This popular eatery originally has garnered a Yelp rating of 4.4 - one of the highest in the Conejo Valley - since opening in June 2021. Their new website is honey-and-herb.com.

Same ownership and staff. Similar menu….with the additional of “regular” Belgian waffles to the menu as well.

The Nook Newbury Park Reopening Soon as Mikey's Restaurant (Now Open)

UPDATE: Mikey’s Restaurant is now open.

Mikey's Restaurant is opening soon at 579 N. Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park (Ralph’s plaza) in the former home of The Nook Restaurant. The poster on the window indicates Mikey's will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and several folks have noted the new owners have indicated they will keep the same breakfast/lunch items and crew - while adding dinner service. The website, which is not currently functional, is www.mikeysrestaurant.com.

The Nook opened its doors in September 2019 in what was previously Sooki's Japanese Grill.

IHOP Newbury Park to Close Its Doors on Sunday, November 19th

A sign on the door of IHOP Newbury Park, 2315 Michael Drive, indicates the location will be closing permanently on November 19th at 3 p.m. The remaining IHOP in the Conejo Valley is the 24 hour location at 5031 Kanan Road in Agoura Hills. www.ihop.com

Prior to IHOP, this location was Astro Family Restaurant until the early 1990s time frame. Prior to that it was a Sambo’s Restaurant, which opened in November 1977.
