Pet Appreciation Day at Janss Marketplace Thousand Oaks on Sunday, October 20, 2019


Dogs and dog lovers are invited  to the annual Shelter Hope Pet Appreciation Day on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Janss Marketplace. Janss Marketplace is just off the Moorpark exit on the 101 Freeway at the intersection of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive, in Thousand Oaks. The pet event on Sunday at Janss Marketplace is conveniently located so people can also attend the 28th Annual Thousand Oaks Rotary Street Fair on Moorpark Road (between Hillcrest and Wilbur). 

Dog surfing in the “Lucy Pet Gnarly Crankin Wave Maker” is a favorite activity at the free event.

The pet friendly event also features DJ music, prize drawings, animal training and other information booths.  The Canine Adoption and Rescue League (CARL) and Volunteers in Defense of Animals (VIDA)will join  Shelter Hope Pet Shop and other local rescue organizations to place 100+ currently available animals in forever homes.

The Shelter Hope Pet Shop is in a storefront at Janss Marketplace, which has provided the free space to the non-profit animal rescue organization for more than seven years.  Shelter of Hope is a fun, friendly place where visitors and volunteers can meet and interact with animals needing adoption. Shelter Hope Pet Shop also sells pet merchandise with all proceeds helping save the lives of homeless pets.

A wonderful display of dogs (and owners) in creative and thematic costumes to win prizes takes place at Ventura Harbor Village on Saturday, October 26, 2019! Starts at 11am – however, please arrive at 10:30 to sign up! Enter your pup in the fun and parade your pooch around the pet-friendly Harbor Village! No entry fee. Hundreds come to watch and take photos. We will accept a maximum off 100 dog entries, so please pre-register to secure your spot at link above.

All doggies that participate get a treat bag from Ventura Pet Barn, all owners get a bag of scooby snacks and a Wooden Nickel for $ off at Coastal Cone Ice cream, and a professional photographer will be on site to snap photos of your pooch.

14th Annual Wag 'n Walk in Simi Valley on Saturday, September 28, 2019

The 14th Annual Wag 'n Walk takes place at Rancho Simi Community Duck Park amphitheater, 1765 Royal Avenue, Simi Valley, on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 8-11am.

Wag 'n Walk is a three-mile fundraising walk for you and your dog. Vendors, music, prizes, dog adoptions, and silent auction/raffle items. Event T-shirt and goodie bag for walkers that raise at least $100. Registration is FREE.

22nd Annual Pooch Parade Dog Walk and Pet Expo in Ventura on Sunday, May 5, 2019

The Pooch Parade is a celebration of love for all dogs. The walk is a beautiful three mile round trip atin Ventura, and yes, the dogs are walking their people in long lines of smiles.

The walk is a fundraiser to support dog rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and dog owner education programs undertaken by the Canine Adoption and Rescue League (C.A.R.L.). As a walk-a-thon, walkers gather donations by obtaining sponsors to underwrite their three mile dogwalk in the Pooch Parade.

The event is held at Promenade Park in Ventura on Sunday,  May 5, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The event will also feature a silent auction, contests, demos and vendors. For more information, visit

Bark in the Park at Conejo Creek Park North in Thousand Oaks on Saturday, May 4, 2019


Bark in the Park is planned for Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 11am to 3pm at Conejo Creek Park North, 1379 E. Janss Road (behind the Thousand Oaks Library).

Special activities include a dog costume contest, as well as a big and littlest dog contest; small dog races, dog entertainers, celebrity dogs, a dog agility course, a dog cool off zone-water area, and at least 50 exhibits and vendors with dog-specific goods & services and apparel. There will also be lots of dogs who would love to find a new home on-hand.

The Grilled Cheese Truck, Hot Diggity Dog, and Kona Ice will be available for food purchase.

Bark in the Park Event at Malibu Bluffs Park on Saturday, February 23, 2019

The City of Malibu Recreation Services Department is hosting “Bark in the Park” at Malibu Bluffs Park, 24250 Pacific Coast Highway, from 11am to 2pm on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

Event is free and open to the public. Consider bringing a donation for animal rescue non-profit Paw Works, such as blankets, leashes, collars, beds and toys.

Event to include dog costume contest, dog/owner look-alike contest, tail wagging contest (dogs, not people), The Roast Truck, Farm and Flame Food Truck, face painting, pet-related vendors and more.

"Santa Paws" Event Benefiting Humane Society in Ojai November 18 and December 2, 2018


Dec 2 event has been cancelled due to large intake of animals rescues from wildfires.

The Humane Society of Ventura County’s 33rd Annual Santa Paws holiday photo shoot will take place on Sunday, November 18th and Sunday, December 2nd from 10am to 3pm at the Ojai Shelter. The December 2nd date will also feature a bake sale and Firefly Ceramics will be on hand providing the materials to make ceramic paw print ornaments for a $25 donation to the Shelter.

Santa Paws is the Society’s largest event, bringing in nearly 300 families to celebrate the holidays with professional quality photographs with a holiday theme. The money raised at Santa Paws goes directly towards the daily operations at the Shelter.

Adults, children and pets are welcome in photos-with or without Santa. The Shelter will have many festive costumes to doll up your pets if you are in the mood. Pocket pets, reptiles, rabbits, and birds are all welcome!

As a private nonprofit, the Humane Society of Ventura County relies 100% on private donations from individuals, organizations, businesses and through grants and trusts. In any given year, the Society makes contact with thousands of animals through adoptions, low-cost spay and neuter clinic, our Humane Officers and outreach efforts.

Donations are vital to the organization and are tax deductible.

The packages for your holiday photo session start at $30 and include 5-10 images. For a larger donation you will also have access to some wonderful HSVC keepsakes including the 2019 HSVC Calendar and more. All images will be provided on-site on a USB flash drive.
