34th Annual Great Race of Agoura Hills Half Marathons, 10K, 5K, 1 Mile on Saturday, April 6, 2019

A perennial favorite of the greater Los Angeles area, the Dole Great Race, will once again take place on April 6, 2019 in Agoura Hills. The event is an exciting and family-friendly event featuring eight race options, including the all-new LAraces.com 2-Person Team Marathon split between trail and road.

Despite a challenging year due to the Woolsey wildfires, the 34th edition of the race is poised to provide a regenerative community experience, bringing together participants, residents, and emergency service personnel in the largest gathering since the wildfires.

Following a period of strong rains over the last several months, the hills and courses are very green, wildflowers are in bloom and serve as a beautiful backdrop for every race distance.

“The Great Race will provide the community an opportunity to personally thank first responders –– the many fire, police and medical personnel working at the race –– for their tireless, valiant work during November's wildfires," said race director Danny Greenberg. "With two bridges on the routes destroyed by fire, some course changes have been implemented, including a completely new half marathon route which in turn has created a wonderful innovation. We are excited for our half marathon runners –– they will make running history with the first ever simultaneous start of two half marathons running in opposite directions.”

This year’s race provides a unique and one-of-a-kind opportunity for pairs of runners to team up and combine efforts in the 2-person Team Marathon. Runners from the teams split up between the Arrowhead Water Pacific Half Marathon (a road race) on a new, flatter and faster course and the iconic Chesebro Half Marathon (a trail race).

The separate races start on opposite sides of the same road in an offset “faceoff.” A concurrent start sends the runners toward each other, where teammates can high five each other to start out their race! After a short distance, the courses then diverge for the remainder of the 13.1 miles and come back together for a dramatic finish. The times for the marathon teams are then added up and graded based on age and gender, for an even opportunity at winning.

While the team marathon is a unique opportunity, the other races are not to be missed. Participants can also choose between running either half marathon independently, or they may choose a shorter race distance, including the Neftin Mazda 10K, Deena Kastor 5K, 15K (combination of both the 10K and 5K), Kids Mile, or Camp Kinneret Family Fun Run.

Following the race is an after-party like no other, selected as a Best Post-Race Party in the country by both Active.com and Runner’s World. In its 15th year as title sponsor, Dole provides a variety of offerings, including bananas, fruit bowls, pineapple juice, and more. A further spread of food awaits all runners free of charge, including pancakes, burritos, coffee, and more. The party extends to families as well — two separate activity zones are available to children, in addition to giant inflatable bounce structures and a climbing wall.

To date, the Dole Great Race has raised over $1.7 million for Agoura Hills and Oak Park schools and will continue to donate a portion of race proceeds in 2019.
