Tony S. forwarded us the word from Fire Island Grill that it has closed its Agoura Hills location to focus on catering. Fire Island Grill Agoura Hills opened in the spring of 2017.

Dave & Buster's Thousand Oaks Hiring Grand Opening in the Coming Months

Update 11/4/18: The official Dave & Buster’s logo went up last week but anticipated timing of the grand opening has been pushed to early March 2019.. If you’re getting antsy about it, check out the Northridge D&B’s, which opened last summer!

Julie's Alps in Newbury Park Announces It Is Going on Hiatus

Julie’s Alps announced today that it “is going on hiatus for a little while” today on its website and Facebook page. At this point it is not known what eatery will be operating at this spot at 2160A Newbury Road in Newbury Park but stay tuned.

Prior to Julie’s Alps taking over earlier this year, it was Jeanette’s Edelweiss (opened in March 2015), Brats Brothers (opened December 2012, closed February 2014) and Lamppost Pizza (closed in December 2011).

Announcement from owner of Julie’s Alps:

“On behalf of all of us at Julie's Alps we want to thank you all for allowing us to serve you for this last year, and especially through this recent very exciting Oktoberfest season.

Julie's Alps is going on hiatus for a little while. We treasure our growing relationships with all of you. We expect to possibly be moving locations and we will certainly update you with those changes.

If the location that we have been serving you from, continues to sell German food, it will not be us, unless we notify you as such, and you speak to me personally. If it's not us, we can't guarantee what you are gonna get in there.

We will be closed starting today until further notice and that notice must come from me personally. Feel free to message me or call me for verification.

We plan on having some events in other locations especially for our devoted customers throughout the coming months.

Taiyo Ramen Now Open in Thousand Oaks

Taiyo Ramen is now open at at 2310 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Thousand Oaks in the former home of Akash Cuisine of India. While I do not have their phone number, I can say they were open on Sunday afternoon and folks were smiling inside!

Continued Progress at the Lowe's / LA Fitness in Newbury Park (UPDATE: July 3 to 8, 2019)

UPDATE: I’ve heard that LA Fitness Newbury Park will open sometime between July 3 and July 8, 2019.

Grading started over a year ago at the Lowe’s / LA Fitness at the northwest corner of Grande Vista Drive and Academy Drive in Newbury Park. Construction seems to be progressing nicely at this point, as evidenced by the photos below over the past week.

LA Fitness is now taking pre-opening memberships out of the former GNC at 1025 Broadbeck Drive (in The Village at Newbury Park), next to Subway. The 37,000 square foot facility, anticipated to open in the Spring 2019 time frame, is considered a Signature Club that among other things will feature an indoor swimming pool, basketball court, hot yoga and much more. Slate Bistro & Craft Bar to Open at Former Home of Safire Bistro in Camarillo

Slate Bistro & Craft Bar is slated to open soon at the former home of Safire American Bistro, 4850 Santa Rosa Road, Camarillo. Updates at www.facebook.com/SLATE-Bistro-Craft-Bar-192311968106712/.

City of Thousand Oaks to Construct "Forestry Demonstration Sites" in Fall 2018

The City of Thousand Oaks is constructing five landscape “Forestry Demonstration Sites” throughout the city starting in the Fall of 2018 through early 2019. Specific site locations will be published by the city at www.toaks.org/forestry.

Each site will be visually appealing, water friendly and drought tolerant. The first of these sties is located on Lynn Road in Newbury Park, between Via Las Brisas and Via Goleta (near the entrance to Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa).

Golden Corral Buffet & Grill Coming in Mid-November to Former Home of Hometown Buffet in Oxnard

Golden Corral Buffet & Grill is in process of renovating the former Hometown Buffet at 1906 Lockwood Street in Oxnard that closed about a year ago. According to a recent post on its Facebook page, the eatery will be opening in mid-November.

Golden Corral is an American family-style restaurant chain serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring a large all-you-can-eat buffet and grill offering numerous hot and cold dishes, a carving station and their Brass Bell Bakery.

Cajun Crab Shack Seafood Eatery Now Open at North Oaks Plaza in Thousand Oaks

Update 10/20/18: Now open.

Update 10/14/18: Amy J. of Thousand Oaks pointed out a sign indicating Cajun Crab Shack is now hiring cooks, servers, busboys and cook helpers. Interviews between 2pm and 7pm on Tuesday, October 16th. No word on opening date but I suspect quite soon. Here’s a sneak peak.

Update 6/17/18: New sign is up. No other details at this point.

CVG Facebook Page follower Mayre Silvers pointed out a new "coming soon" sign at the former Mariscos Cancun Seafood Grill in Thousand Oaks. "Cajun Crab Shack" Seafood is the name of the new eatery. Sounds promising! Location is the North Oaks Plaza, 1074 E. Avenida De Los Arboles in Thousand Oaks. No additional information at the time.
