King & Goebel Motors Opened in Thousand Oaks in June 1960

King & Goebel Motors opened in mid-June 1960 as Thousand Oaks’ first new‑car showroom and service shop, located at 2594 Ventura Blvd (now Thousand Oaks Blvd). The dealership offered a full line of Simca models—Chrysler had purchased a major stake in the French automaker in 1958 and imported Simcas into the U.S. through the mid‑60s. K&G soon added British imports Hillman and Sunbeam to its lineup.

What followed at this location is perhaps the longest dealership timeline in Conejo Valley history:

  • 1961–62: King & Goebel Rambler → Goebel Rambler (Owner Gene Goebel was the son of Jungleland founder Louis Goebel.)

  • 1963–64: Conejo Rambler → Mayfield’s Conejo Rambler

  • 1966-67: Mayfield Car Co. Import Center (importing Datsun) → Mayfield–Hart Datsun

  • 1970s: Conejo Valley Datsun → Al Piano Datsun → Al Piano Honda → Conejo Auto Imports

  • Mid-70s-mid-80s: Westlake Volvo / Neftin Westlake Volvo

  • Late 80s: Acura of Thousand Oaks (Steven Piano)

  • 1990s: Thrifty Car Rental / Thrifty Car Sales / Coventry Jaguar → Bikers Dream Superstore

  • 2000s–2020s: Thousand Oaks Honda & Suzuki Off‑Road → Allen Motors (until its recent move to Westlake Village) → Malibu Automotive Group (2026) www.malibuautomotivegroup.com

A single building, witness to six decades of Conejo Valley automotive history.
