50th Annual Easter Sunrise Service at Pierce Brothers Westlake Village on Sunday, April 16, 2017

Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park Hosts 50th Annual Easter Sunrise Service, April 16

For 50 years, Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks has united our community in prayer at sunrise each Easter morning.

Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park is proud to host its 50th annual Easter Sunrise Service April 16 beginning at 6:00 a.m. at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village, just north of the 101 Freeway. From its beginning, this service has provided a unique experience and opportunity for neighbors to unite in prayer on the holiest of Christian holidays. The service, sponsored by the Conejo Valley Interfaith Association, welcomes all faiths. Many have attended this event for more than 30 years.

Glowing luminaries will form the shape of a cross just behind the podium where clergy representing multiple faiths from our community will concelebrate the service. Gentle sheep will graze on the hillside much like they might have on the first Easter morning. As the Easter candles are lit, Dr. Gary Alan Dickey will play “Amazing Grace” on his bagpipes. During the service, scripture readings, music and prayers will inspire all who attend this moving, non-denominational service. Rev. Brian Long will present the Easter message on “Freedom at the Grave" and an offering will be collected for the Lutheran Social Services Agency of Thousand Oaks.

Clergy participating in the service include The Rev. Dr. Gary Alan Dickey, United Methodist Church of Westlake Village, The Rev. Brian Long, United Methodist Church of Westlake Village, The Rev. Craig Beeker, New Hope Lutheran Church of Agoura, Rev. Joshua Han, Westlake Village Korean Church, and The Rev. John Burnett, Emeritus, Westminster Presbyterian Church of Westlake Village. Music will be provided by keyboardist Karleen Van Dyke, United Methodist Church of Westlake Village and soloist Karenjo Crump, United Methodist Church of Westlake Village.

The Easter Sunrise Service is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served following the celebration. For more information and directions, call Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park at (818) 889-0902.
