7th Annual Ventura County Farm Day on Saturday, November 9, 2019

Ventura County farms, ranches, nurseries and other agricultural operations, from organic to conventional, row crops to orchards, will open their doors to the public during the 7th Annual Ventura County Farm Day. On Saturday, November 9, visitors will experience a day of agricultural activities and meet the farmers who grow the food they eat. Farm Day is free and for all ages.

Farm Day tour hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Every stop is unique, but all farms feature a number of activities such as educational tours and free produce samplings.

Participating ag operations include Reiter Affiliated Companies at Laguna Farms, Houweling’s Tomatoes in Camarillo, Agromin (organics recycler), Gill’s Onions in Oxnard, Limoneira Company in Santa Paula and Petty Ranch in Saticoy.

Ventura County Farm Day is organized by the nonprofit Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG). SEEAG’s mission is to help children understand the farm origins of their food and benefits of proper nutrition through classroom agricultural education and free farm field trips.

Farm Day Kickoff BBQ: Farm Day officially kicks off Thursday, November 7 with a pig roast at Topa Mountain Winery in Ojai. Beginning at 5:00 p.m., the public (ages 21 and over) can enjoy live music, farm-fresh food including locally grown produce, craft cocktails, beers and wines. Barbecue tickets are $95 per person (early entry VIP tickets are $150 each).

Ventura County Farm Day sponsors include Ventura County Coast, Farm Credit West, Brokaw Nursery, Al Lowe Construction and Ventura County Agricultural Association.

30th Annual United Way of Ventura County Day of Caring on Saturday, September 28th

United Way of Ventura County invites the community to participate in its 30th Annual Day of Caring to take place on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 9am to noon. This event will bring together teams and individual volunteers to help nonprofit organizations in the community with a variety of tasks. Volunteer projects are available in cities throughout Ventura County.

United Way is seeking volunteers to help community organizations across Ventura County. Day of Caring will be a fun, free and easy way for individuals, families and teams to work together and create real change in the community.

In 2018, over 550 individuals, families and teams volunteered at 29 project sites.

Some of the volunteer projects will include leading arts and crafts activities for children, painting and freshening up community centers, creating a garden of hope for cancer patients, sorting food at food banks and pantries and more!

35th Annual Ventura County Coastal Cleanup Day is Saturday, September 21, 2019

The mission of the Ventura Countywide Coalition for Coastal and Inland Waterways is 'Promoting clean & healthier beaches, rivers and creeks, throughout Ventura County.

Be one of 60,000 people to take part in the upcoming 35th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day! Volunteers will remove debris from the coast, creeks, rivers, lakes and shorelines all around California protecting wildlife from harm while taking care of our environment.

To volunteer, visit www.vccoastcleanup.org and pick a site to help clean up at over 20 sites in Ventura County. Print and sign the waiver form and show up at your chosen site at 9 a.m.

Reminder: If you are a student needing volunteer service hours, Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way to get your hours and help the environment at the same time!

14th Annual IHOP National Pancake Day on Tuesday, March 12, 2019

On Tuesday, March 12, 2019 IHOP restaurants nationwide will celebrate National Pancake Day from 7 am to 7 pm and will offer each guest a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes. In return, IHOP will ask guests to consider donating what they would have paid for the pancakes or more to Children's Miracle Network, Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. IHOP has raised nearly $30 million for charity through this event since 2006!

The free pancakes are limited to one free short stack per guest. Dine in only. More information at www.ihoppancakeday.com.

Ventura County Serve Day on May 12, 2018

Serve Day is a day designated for churches, businesses, and agencies to serve together across Ventura County. ACTION finds needs within our communities and helps match volunteers to local projects. In 2017, 1,850 volunteers served with us in over 500 projects at transitional living centers, mobile home parks, schools and homeless shelters in their neighborhoods.
