Newbury Park Track Club and Other Ventura County Youth Track Clubs

The Newbury Park Track Club (NPTC) is a youth recreational sports program in track and field. Founded in 1968, the NPTC is the oldest continuously running youth sports organization in the Conejo Valley.

Registration takes place in December/January (for spring track season) and early summer (for fall cross country season) each year. Age groups range from 7 to 16 years. Teams are as follows:

  • Gremlins: Ages 7-8
  • Bantams: Ages 9-10
  • Midgets: Ages 11-12
  • Youth: Ages 13-14
  • Intermediate: Ages 15-16

Each team is coached by at least one coach, with additional support from parents and specialty coaches as needed.  Athletes compete fairly and equally.  All athletes are eligible to compete an equal amount, and all have an equal chance to earn first place awards.

NPTC is a member of the Ventura County Youth Track Conference, a non-profit, tax-exempt California corporation.

Other clubs currently in the conference include: Camarillo Cosmos, Heritage Valley Blazers, Moorpark Striders, Ojai Roadrunners, Oxnard Stars, Thousand Oaks Flyers and Ventura Tigres.

Open Gym at Conejo Recreation & Park District Facilities

The Conejo Recreation & Park District has several facilities offering not only paid programs and classes but free access to indoor gymnasium facilities during designated hours.

The Thousand Oaks Community Center offers free "open gym" times throughout the month, with access to indoor basketball, volleyball, badminton and pickleball.  Located at 2525 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. For open gym times, visit crpd.org/facilities/1koaks.asp or call 805.381.2793.

The Borchard Community Center at 190 Reino Road, Newbury Park also offers free "open gym" access during designated time frames. Vist crpd.org/facilities/borchard.asp or call 805.381.2791.

The Dos Vientos Community Center at 4801 Borchard Road, Newbury Park also offers free open gym access during designated time frames. They indicate that open basketball times are for those 16 years and older to play basketball; no team practices are allowed during open gym times. Open badminton is also offered on some nights. The Thousand Oaks Teen Center at 1375 East Janss Road, Thousand Oaks offers free drop-in recreation to any local teen (grades 7 to 12) during daily operational hours, including game room, gym and computer lab. Los Robles Children's Choir

The Los Robles Children's Choir consists of four choirs for kids ages 6 to 18: 

  • The Apprentice Choir or beginners ages 6-9 with no prior musical experience.
  • The Bel Canto Choir (for beginners that are able to sing in tune). No audition required.
  • The Amadeus Choir (advanced treble choir for those who can also read music). Audition required.
  • The Camerata Youth Choir (for advanced high school singers ages 14-18). Audition required.

Port of Hueneme Educational Tours

The Port of Hueneme is open to the public for tours Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. School tours are particularly encouraged. Groups can range from a few to up to 25. Groups larger than 25 can be accommodated with advance arrangements. To arrange a tour of the Port,  call (805) 488-3677.

The Port of Hueneme offers an excellent educational experience for students of all ages with tour content tailored to meet the educational needs of elementary, secondary and post secondary educational levels. Tours are generally divided into two sections, inside classroom style presentation followed by an outside tour by motorcoach. Port tours take generally an hour and a half to two hours but can be shortened to accommodate class schedules.

The Oxnard Harbor District is an independent special district (business enterprise) a political subdivision of the State of California which owns and operates the commercial Port of Hueneme. The District was created in 1937 under authority of an act of the legislature of the State of California which provides for the formation of Harbor Districts.

Over $9 billion in cargo value moves through the Port of Hueneme each year. Port related activity generates over $1.5 billion in economic activity.

We Rock the Spectrum Kid's Gym in Simi Valley (Closed December 2016)

Note: We Rock the Spectrum Simi Valley announced that they are closing their doors at the end of December 2016.

We Rock the Spectrum Kid's Gym at 2888-B Cochran St, Simi Valley opened to the public in July 2015. Open 7 days a week, 9am to 7pm for open play, birthday parties, break time, camps and more. 

The gym provides children from infant to age 13 with a fun and motivational environment to help them with strength, movement, vestibular development, sensory processing, communication and social interactions.

Activities at the gym include: zip line, full sized trampoline, rope wall, slide, monkey bars, swings, tunnels, sensory-based toys, motor play toys and equipment, arts and crafts area and more.

California Heat Volleyball Club - Camarillo

California Heat Volleyball Club is a member of the Southern California Volleyball Association and practices at 4740 Calle Carga, Camarillo. 

The club has six teams and provides developmental programs, private/group training, summer programs and more.

Newbury Park Basketball Association

The Newbury Park Basketball Association has divisions based on grade as of September 1 of the year. The club is open to any youth living in the Newbury Park area.

Divisions include:

  • Gremlin boys and girls - grades 3-4
  • Intermediate boys and girls - grades 5-6
  • Senior boys and girls - grades 7-8
  • High school boys and girls - grades 9-12
