Burgers are Booming in the Conejo Valley and Adjacent Areas!

Yelp indicates there are 40 eateries in the Conejo Valley cities of Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills that specialize in BURGERS! If you live in the Conejo Valley and enjoy a great burger, your options are better than ever. Let's take a look at some of our local options.

Umami Burger opened at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks in May 2012. Umami is a Japanese word describing the pleasant and savory taste of their burgers. Quite unique and delicious. On the pricey side but worth it if you want something different! My wife ranks Umami and The Counter neck and neck as her favorite burgers in town. The deceiving simplicity of the Umami Burger

Smashburger opened in Thousand Oaks in July 2012 and more recently at the Camarillo Premium Outlets in November 2014.

A third Ventura County Five Guys Burgers and Fries opened at The Collection at Riverpark in Oxnard in November 2012, joining other locations in Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley. Five Guys serves up a meaty burger.

Beef is not lacking in this Five Guys burger

The Habit Burger Grill has locations in Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills, Newbury Park, Simi Valley, Camarillo, Ventura (2) and Oxnard. Quite a popular place, with very consistently good burgers, fries and other menu items.

Another popular burger joint, P & L Burgers, is located in the Oak Brook Plaza off of Avenida de los Arboles in Thousand Oaks.

Tommy's Burgers opened in Ventura in December 2011, not too far from the bounds of the Conejo Valley. There's also a Tommy's in Simi Valley.

STACKED: Food Well Built opened its first Ventura County location at The Oaks Mall in March 2013. Burgers are a prominent menu item at this eatery, where you can customize your food using a tabletop iPad.

Johnny Rockets, known for its burgers, has locations at the Camarillo Premium Outlets The Commons at Calabasas.

Other great burgers around town are served up at In-N-Out Burger (Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Camarillo, Simi Valley, Oxnard, Moorpark), The Ranch in Westlake Village, Wood Ranch BBQ, Bandits BBQ, Billy Dz Backyard BBQ, Sossy's BBQ and Ranch Hand BBQ, Islands Restaurant and Red Robin Burgers, to name just a few! I've had an amazing Kobe beef burger at The Grill on the Alley in Westlake Village. Also at Cronies in Agoura Hills, Newbury Park, Camarillo, Simi Valley and Ventura as well as Chef Burger on Thousand Oaks Blvd in Thousand Oaks.

Hook Burger has locations in Westlake Village and Oxnard, with burgers that are 100% fresh prime chuck.

Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers opened in Westlake Village in the Fall of 2013. Burgers are ok, but I really like the french fries there!

East coast based Jake's Wayback Burgers is opened in Ventura in April 2013.

This list is nowhere near complete, so feel free to comment on all of YOUR favorites below!

Sue L likes burgers from Famous Daves and The Hat. Keep em coming!

Burgers No More:

BurgerWerks Charbroil Grill opened in Westlake Village on February 13, 2013...but closed its doors in August 2014.

Burger Express in Newbury Park closed its doors on October 30, 2012.

Johnny Rockets at The Oaks Mall closed its doors early in 2012 and at its Agoura Hills location in December 2012.

Garage Dogs opened on Thousand Oaks Boulevard across the street from 24 Hour Fitness back in April (but subsequently closed in the September 2013 time frame).

The Counter opened in Westlake Village in 2009 but closed its doors unexpectedly in April 2015.

Famous Dave's has a really good burger. Just make sure they go easy on the salt when they cook it.
The Hat has a good burger

The Burger Barn, a hole in the wall located at 5000 Santa Rosa Rd. in Camarillo is still one of my favorite burger joints.

I'll second the Famous Dave's comment. Stacked has good burgers especially if you put in the effort to customize it.

I've had Umami burger a few times and never liked it. The Counter is okay but also pricey. Both are a world better than Feddy's though which is horrible.

We're still missing a good, unassuming burger grill. I've never lived anywhere else missing something simple like that. Boulevard Burger in the valley is a good example. Simple, honest, privately owned restaurants seem like a big void in Conejo Valley in general. I still haven't found a really good taqueria.

Haven't tried all the places on your list but agree with Christine, Burger Barn makes some nice burgers! -Jesse
