The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks

The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks resides at the corner of the 101 Freeway and Lynn Road at 350 West Hillcrest Avenue. The 1.3 million square foot mall was originally built in 1978 and was renovated 15 years later in 1993. Another 15 years later, 2008, The Oaks has completed a major remodel. This includes the addition of 235,000 additional square feet of retail space (134,000 square feet in 2008 "Phase I") and restructuring 330,000 square feet of existing space.
Phase I project highlights include a new 2-story 138,000 sq ft Nordstrom's store, four freestanding restaurants around a piazza, a fountain-centered courtyard, a state of the art 70,000 sq ft movie theater, new enlarged food court and kids' play area, a new 2-level parking lot with 1250 parking spaces and the possible addition of a fifth anchor store (current anchors include JC Penney, Macy's Women, Macy's Men/Home/Childrens, and Nordstrom's) with adjoining parking structure. Read more here.
The brand spanking new Nordstrom's opened on the south side of the mall on September 5th, 2008! My wife is in heaven. She asked me if she could get a job there so she could buy more clothes (but with the employee discount). I told her to get a job at Target. Beautiful new store.
Oh yes, and another thing. The brand new multi-level parking structure ROCKS! There are over 1,300 parking spaces in it, the spaces are large, there are digital signs that tell you how many spaces are available (very cool!) and there are pedestrian bridges between the structure and the mall. Boy was it nice parking in the shade of this new structure last week!
