Bark in the Park at Conejo Creek Park North in Thousand Oaks on Saturday, March 16, 2024

Bark in the Park is planned for Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 9am to noon at Conejo Creek Park North, 1379 E. Janss Road (behind the Thousand Oaks Library).

Special activities include a dog costume contest, dog racetrack, dog entertainers, dog agility course, vendors and more. No aggressive dogs. All dogs must be on a leash.

Event free of charge and activities are free to participate in. Food available for purchase.

Howl-O-Ween Event at Mission Oaks Dog Park in Camarillo on Saturday, October 28, 2023

Bring your dog in their scariest, funniest, most original costume – or even do matching costumes with your dog, to Howl-O-Ween at Mission Oaks Park, 5501 Mission Oaks Boulevard, Camarillo (in the off leash area) on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 10am to 1pm. Free admission. No registration necessary. Dog costume contest, pet vendors, raffles and food trucks will be on hand (or paw). Watch a show by Disc Dogs and learn how to train your dog to be a disc dog.

Dogs are to be kept on a leash with a leash length not exceeding 6 feet. Owners must follow dog park rules and regulations.

Mission Oaks Dog Park is an off-leash dog park, but for special events such as Howl-O-Ween, leashes are required.

Dogs may be off-leash in the designated area to perform in the best trick contest and must be back on a leash immediately following their trick.

Pet Appreciation Day at Janss Marketplace Thousand Oaks on Sunday, October 20, 2019

Dogs and dog lovers are invited  to the annual Shelter Hope Pet Appreciation Day on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Janss Marketplace. Janss Marketplace is just off the Moorpark exit on the 101 Freeway at the intersection of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive, in Thousand Oaks. The pet event on Sunday at Janss Marketplace is conveniently located so people can also attend the 28th Annual Thousand Oaks Rotary Street Fair on Moorpark Road (between Hillcrest and Wilbur). 

Dog surfing in the “Lucy Pet Gnarly Crankin Wave Maker” is a favorite activity at the free event.

The pet friendly event also features DJ music, prize drawings, animal training and other information booths.  The Canine Adoption and Rescue League (CARL) and Volunteers in Defense of Animals (VIDA)will join  Shelter Hope Pet Shop and other local rescue organizations to place 100+ currently available animals in forever homes. 

About Shelter of Hope

The Shelter Hope Pet Shop is in a storefront at Janss Marketplace, which has provided the free space to the non-profit animal rescue organization for more than seven years.  Shelter of Hope is a fun, friendly place where visitors and volunteers can meet and interact with animals needing adoption. Shelter Hope Pet Shop also sells pet merchandise with all proceeds helping save the lives of homeless pets.

Humane Society of Ventura County Birthday Bash & Open House in Ojai on June 9th

Stop by the Humane Society of Ventura County between 10-3 on Saturday, June 9, 2018 to celebrate 86 years of service to Ventura County. Get a behind the scenes peek at the facility, interact with animals, tour the kennels and clinic, meet the staff, and learn about different volunteer opportunities. Bring the whole family to enjoy refreshments, participate in a treasure hunt and learn more about how YOU can make a difference in the lives of animals in need!

Humane Educator, Robin Satnick, will have a variety of activities for children along with information on responsible pet ownership. Our Humane Officers will be on hand to give you a look at the responsibilities and duties of protecting animals throughout the county. We are pleased to welcome back Firefly Ceramics and their Tiles for Tails program. For a $25 donation benefiting our new kennels, you can design your own tile that will be permanently displayed on site here at the Shelter. 

What would a visit to a shelter be without the main attraction—the animals! There will be a full house of critters available for adoption; you never know when you are going to meet your new best friend!
