The ALDI U.S. website indicates the ALDI Thousand Oaks store at Janss Marketplace will be opening its doors on Monday, December 14, 2020. However, there were no signs at the store confirming that specific date, nor would ALDI U.S. confirm the date that has been displayed on their website for the last week.

What I can tell you is that store certainly looks ready to open on the 14th! The shopping carts are in place in front of the store and the shelves appear fully stocked.

So….if you’d like to be one of the first ones into the store, 9am tomorrow (Monday) morning may be it. Or maybe not. But the actual date is quite soon.

Several folks have asked what ALDI is. ALDI is retail grocery chain, with over 2,000 stores in 37 states. The German chain anticipates becoming the third-largest grocery retailer by store count in the U.S. by the end of 2022.

IKEA announced earlier this week that it will be relocating from its current store in Burbank to a brand new location at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8. The address is 805 S. San Fernando Boulevard (about 36 miles from Thousand Oaks).

This new store will be 456,000 sq ft, making it the largest IKEA store in the United States, and nearly double the 242,000 sq ft current store size. As a comparison, The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks is 1.2 million sq ft and the old, long-vacant K-Mart building on Hampshire Road is about 116,000 sq ft. Coincidentally, Janss Marketplace is 456,000 sq ft.

There are currently 43 IKEA stores in the U.S., with a 44th store opening in Columbus, OH in the summer of 2017.

Customers can begin lining up at the store three hours in advance, at 6:00 a.m., to partake in the festivities – and soon can learn of more grand opening plans and promotions at IKEA-USA.com/Burbank.

Prior to the grand opening of the new, larger IKEA Burbank, customers can continue to shop at the original Burbank store through Saturday evening, February 4, when the old store will close permanently.

The new store, which will include 1,700 parking spaces, is being built on 22 acres west of San Fernando Boulevard and south of Providencia Avenue – less than one mile from the existing store (which originally opened in November 1990 on 6.4 acres).

The new, more spacious IKEA Burbank will feature a larger quantity of the nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a larger (600-seat) restaurant serving Swedish specialties.

Other family-friendly features include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the showroom, baby-care rooms, play areas throughout the store, and preferred parking. In addition, IKEA offers a variety of customer services such as home delivery, product assembly, product picking and delivery as well as an IKEA FAMILY loyalty program.

Vintage Grocers to Open at The Promenade at Westlake on Saturday, October 1st

Vintage Grocers, a community-minded market and retailer of gourmet, organic, natural and conventional foods, will be opening its doors at The Promenade at Westlake on Saturday, October 1.

Vintage Grocers is known for their classic hometown market feel and curated menu of locally-sourced products. This will mark the brand’s second location, following the popular flagship store at Trancas Country Market in Malibu.

The new Westlake Village location will be double the size and offer an even wider range of products from the finest meats, produce, seafood, fruits, vegetables and more – all sourced from Southern California’s leading food establishments and local artisans. A private wine tasting room, fresh poke, olive bars and pressed juices will further enhance the new space. Additionally, a variety of grab-and-go stations (i.e. burrito, pizza, ice cream and coffee bars) will cater to those on the go.

Bulldog Auction House and Retail Location in Camarillo

Recently I happened upon the Bulldog Auction House, located at 3233 Mission Oaks Blvd, Unit A in Camarillo (near the Technicolor facility).

Bulldog is on online auction house with locations in Canoga Park and Camarillo locally, offering a variety of items for auction, including home goods, toys, appliances, furniture, auto supplies, cleaning supplies, baby supplies and a wide range of other items. Timing of the auctions vary.

But the Camarillo Bulldog Liquidators location also has a retail store with an interesting array of items for sale. Coffee, office supplies, chairs, furniture, tools, toys, games, household cleaning, food items (lots of coffee), and much more.  We're talking kind of a Big Lots in a warehouse with an eclectic assortment of items at discount items.

Bulldog has been here for a number of months. Since it is co-located in corporate/industrial space, there is zero visibility from the main street, but it is just off the 101, west of Flynn Road.

I asked where the items came from and was told mostly overstock items. There did appear to be some used, perhaps returned items. Like a Trivial Pursuit game in an opened package that truly looked unused. There was quite an interesting assortment of items on hand for bargain hunters out there. There were also a lot of diapers, child seats and other items.

You can also check out items in the online auction. We're talking a massive assortment of kitchen electronics and other household/personal items like diapers, detergent and so much more.  The current auction has 800 items for sale. If you are the high bidder, you pay a 12% premium (be sure to take that into account in your bidding) and sales taxes.

Current retail store hours are Mon-Wed 8 am to 4 pm and Thurs-Sat 8 am to 5 pm. Learn more at www.bulldogauctionhouse.com or call 805.312.0327.
