Regal Edwards Grand Palace Movie Theater at The Commons at Calabasas Has Closed

The Regal Edwards Grand Palace movie theater at The Commons at Calabasas has closed it doors effective today, September 15th. No explanation was given. But on September 7th, Regal’s parent company, Cineworld announced it had filed for bankruptcy protection.

Filming for New Movie at Newbury Park High School Leads to a Double Take

Newbury Park High School has been replaced....temporarily, that is, with Waymont High School, Home of the Warriors (wait a second...isn't that the Westlake High School mascot!?). Filming is going on at the school for a high school comedy movie called "Incoming."

From Variety: “Incoming” follows four incoming freshmen as they navigate the terrors of adolescence at their first-ever high school party. The cast also includes “The Black Phone” actor Mason Thames, Bobby Cannavale and fellow “Mick” alum Kaitlin Olson. Directors are Dave and John Chernin, known for the show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," in their feature filmmaking debut.

Ventura County, Conejo Valley Area Movie Theaters Announcing Reopening Plans Started October 9th (Ended November 18th)

Local area theaters that are reopening soon (current Red Tier guideline is the lesser of 25% capacity or 100 people per theater screening) include AMC Thousand Oaks this Friday, 10/9 (thanks Dawn for the heads up via the CVG Instagram page), Cinepolis Westlake Village 10/12, Regency Paseo Camarillo 10/9, Century Riverpark in Oxnard 10/9 and Roxy Stadium 11 in Camarillo 10/16.

Studio Movie Grill Simi Valley is back open.

Regal theaters announced the opposite the other day...that all theaters are "suspending" operations as of 10/9. Regal theaters in the local area include Janss Marketplace, Simi Valley Civic Center, Edwards Camarillo and Edwards Calabasas. Regal indicates this is temporary. "Any rewards and credits that expire while Regal theatres are closed will be extended when we reopen."

AMC Theatres Completed Purchase of Carmike Cinemas on December 20, 2016

Carmike Stockholders approved a merger agreement with AMC Theatres on November 15, 2016 and the merger was completed on December 20, 2016.

Before the merger, Carmike operated 271 theatres with 2,923 screens in 41 states, with a focus on mid-sized communities.

Muvico Theatres was purchased by Carmike in November 2013 but continued to operate our local Muvico Theatre under its original name. Muvico premiered at the Oaks Mall on February 27, 2009. So we are talking three different owners in less than eight years!

No word yet on if AMC will maintain the Muvico brand.

AMC is the largest movie exhibition company in the world, with approximately 636 theatres and 7,623 screens worldwide, including the largest cinema operator in Europe, Odeon Cinemas Group. AMC indicates it has the #1 or #2 market share positions in 21 of the 25 largest metropolitan areas in the United States, including the top three markets (NY, LA, Chicago). AMC, through its Odeon subsidiary, operates in seven European countries and is the No. 1 theatre chain in the UK & Ireland, Italy and Spain.

In a January 30, 2017 press release, AMC previewed preliminary 2016 results of revenue in the $3.2 billion range and net earnings in the range of $112 million to $120 million. It will release complete financial results after the market closes on February 28th.

Regal Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks Grand Opening on Thursday, June 9th

The new Regal Cinemas at Janss Marketplace is offering a “soft opening” fundraiser event June 5, 6 & 7 that will benefit three local charities - Play Conejo., Variety - The Children's Charity and Make-a-Wish Tri Counties.

100% of proceeds raised on the $3 tickets, $3 popcorn and $3 soft drinks will be divided evenly among the three charities.

From October 26 - 29, SMG Simi Valley will host its signature community-wide Cans Film Festival Food Drive. Moviegoers who donate four or more canned goods or non-perishable food items during the food drive will receive a free ticket to any movie that day. All donated items will go to benefit The Samaritan Center, Simi Valley’s social services organization

In addition, SMG offers its Special Needs Screenings for families raising children with special needs. Established over seven years ago, these regularly scheduled screenings offer first-run family movies, free to children with special needs and their siblings. Carmike Cinemas Completes Acquisition of Nine State-of-the-Art Theatres and 147 Screens from Muvico Theatres

Carmike Cinemas, Inc.
