City of Camarillo Provides Trolley Bus Service Seven Days a Week

The City of Camarillo provides trolley bus service Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 9 p.m.

The fare price is $.50 for seniors and ADA riders and $1 for adults and students.

The service provides convenient, air-conditioned, nostalgic transportation to Camarillo retail and dining destinations. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are provided.

The trolley bus route starts at the Metrolink train station, runs west on Daily Drive, south down Las Posas Road, and then east on Ventura Boulevard back to the Metrolink station. Here are the stops and the minutes the trolley reaches each stop after each hour and half hour:

  • Camarillo Plaza (Daily Dr west of Murray Ave) (7 min)

The trolley stops at shopping centers all along the route on a 30 minute schedule. Riders can also flag down the trolley to board anywhere along the route.

Petersen Automotive Museum to Offer Free Educational Live Streams Amid School Closures

In response to school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum — which is temporarily closed until March 31, 2020 — will offer free educational live streams beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020

For students looking for supplemental learning activities during school closures, the Petersen Automotive Museum will offer free educational live streams twice daily beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Daily presentations will consist of a lecture at 10 a.m. and a hands-on activity at 1 p.m. In addition to live stream programming, the museum will offer downloadable worksheets and coloring sheets. The museum will remain closed to the public until March 31, 2020, or until further notice.

Although lessons are open to parents and children of all ages, the subject matter is targeted for children ages 12 and under. The program schedule is below, and topics are subject to change.

Tuesday, March 17, 10 a.m. – Force and Motion

Cars are about motion. While it may seem simple to press a pedal and move forward, there are dozens of forces interacting that must be balanced to produce motion. From Newton’s laws to different types of energy, students will learn the simple physics behind the automobile.

Tuesday, March 17, 1 p.m. – Balloon Cars

For a car to move, a force must be applied. Students will explore propulsion and Newton’s Third Law of Motion by making their own balloon cars.

Wednesday, March 18, 10 a.m. – History of the Car

Cars have been in existence for more than a century (or longer, depending on when you start). Join the Petersen as it explores the evolution of the automobile.

Wednesday, March 18, 1 p.m. – License Plates

License plates identify vehicles as properly registered with the state but may also serve as a canvas. Students will create their own license plates and decorate them to show off something about their home state.

Thursday, March 19, 10 a.m. – Storytime Featuring “Go, Dog, Go!” By P.D. Eastman

Students will read the beloved tale about dogs and their cars.

Thursday, March 19, 1 p.m. – Animal Cars

Students will make a car of their favorite animal with materials found around the house.

Friday, March 20, 10 a.m. – Design Process

Utilizing the car, students will explore how things go from idea to finished product.

Friday, March 20, 1 p.m. – Car Models

A critical part of automotive design is creating a model. Students will create car models to show how the modeling process can help to explore design choices.

Future lessons will cover propulsion, aerodynamics, racing and a host of other topics.

“The Petersen Automotive Museum offers students an opportunity to gain an education during school closure and in between their digital course loads,” said Petersen Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “Our special programming will broaden kids’ knowledge and expose them to the world of the automobile.”

Camarillo Health Care District Hosts Free "Produce Day" in Partnership with FOOD Share

The Camarillo Health Care District, in partnership with FOOD Share, hosts a free “Produce Day” on the 2nd Thursday of each month, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at District offices located at 3639 E. Las Posas Road, Suite 117, in Camarillo.  Participants can select, at no charge, from a variety of seasonal produce items. Produce is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring bags (the flyer above says bags will be provided; but this has changed). There are no eligibility requirements. 

The District usually posts what produce is being offered the morning of each Free Produce Day event on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CamarilloHealthCareDistrict.

Health screenings and other services are also available in conjunction with this event, held every second Thursday of the month, at no charge. There are no eligibility requirements and produce is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call to register, (805) 388-1952, ext. 100.

Westlake Village Trolley to Run Fri/Sat Nights From May 24, 2019 through Labor Day Weekend

The Westlake Village Trolley is back in service. The free Trolley returns on Friday, May 24, 2019 and will operate on Friday and Saturday nights through Labor Day weekend. The Trolley begins its run at Westlake Village City Hall at 3:00 pm and concludes each night at 10:00 pm. With stops at all major retail centers, including the Shoppes at Westlake Village, hotels, and neighborhoods, the Village Trolley is a great way to get around town.

Free, live entertainment on board the Trolley from 6-8pm only enhances the experience!

Riding the Village Trolley is easy. Simply hop on at one of 16 stops and hop off whenever you want. The Trolley is outfitted with a GPS locator device allowing riders to use their smartphone to track the trolley’s progress. The Trolley is not just transportation; it is a mobile City event perfect for residents and visitors of all ages. Check the City website for the up-to-date entertainment schedule. The Village Trolley is the smart and safe way to get to your favorite restaurant, park, or City special event.
