A Compilation of Automotive Relics in the Open Space of the Conejo Valley

As a resident of the Conejo Valley for over 20 years, a long distance runner and a father with active kids, I've run, walked, hiked and rolled over thousands of miles of trails within and surrounding the Conejo Valley.

Over the years I've noticed interesting, old items on the sides of the trails. These relics from the past always make me wonder how they got there and why they remain. I've attempted here to document these automotive blasts to the past on the trails of the Conejo Valley.

Laser Tag Places In and Around Ventura County

In 1982, a man named George Carter III started designing an arena-based, scored version of a game involving guns that emit infrared beams to "hit" members of other teams. The first laser tag arena was opened by Carter in Dallas on March 28, 1984. Laser tag at one point here in Ventura County consisted of just one venue - Lazerstar in Camarillo, which closed in March 2012. But in recent years has been on an upswing.

What I like about laser tag is that it is fun for all ages, gets you on your feet and is strategic. And it doesn't hurt when you're shot!

Here are some laser tag options in and around Ventura County:

LazerTag Extreme in the Wood Ranch Shopping Center in Simi Valley opened in July 2013. The facility is over 5,000 sq ft, with a multi-level arena, arcade and more.

Laser Tag Westlake is located at The Stadium in Westlake Village, a 3,000 sq ft arena that opened in the summer of 2015.

Blast City Laser Tag in Oak Park opened in October 2016, a two-story laser tag arena for kids 5 and up.

There's a laser tag arena within Sky High Sports - The Trampoline Place in Camarillo.

There's also an inflatable laser tag arena at Golf N' Stuff Ventura of all places.

Not far away is the 2,400 sq ft LA Underground Laser-Tag arena at Glowzone in Woodland Hills.

First Rainstorm of Fall 2015 Brings Rainbows to Ventura County

Rainbow Kevin Herold

Kevin Herold of Oak Park captured this promising looking full rainbow in Oak Park yesterday, the 2nd and final day of clouds and light rains here in the Conejo Valley, Ventura County area. Although this fickle weather we're seeing is forecast to jump towards triple digit heat yet again towards the weekend, we were happy to see the rain and rainbows and hopeful for much more to come.

Spring Is In the Air at the Palo Comado Canyon Trail in Oak Park

PaloComadoSign_Sunnycrest.JPG

The 4.4 mile Palo Comado Canyon Trail runs from near the Cheeseboro Canyon trailhead to the China Flat trailhead in the Simi Hills, about a 1,200 foot elevation gain. But you don't have to hike the whole trail to enjoy it. One nice entry point to the trail is on Doubletree Road in Oak Park, most easily accessed via Sunnycrest Drive off of Kanan.

Today was a perfect day for a hike. With temperatures in the low 70s and a cool spring breeze in the air, not to mention some springtime colors on the hills thanks to some recent, albeit brief, rainfall.
