TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT NEWBURY PARK

California Quail Perched on MB2 Raceway Sign in Newbury Park

CalQuail1.JPG

It's the little things.

Late this afternoon I was on a casual run on the streets of Newbury Park in the industrial area along Lawrence Drive. It was a beautiful day today and there was a cool breeze in the air.

As I cruised along, I noticed a bird perched on the MB2 Raceway sign west of the Rancho Conejo Boulevard intersection. This bird, a California quail, stopped me in my tracks.

I've seen quail out and about, but never as prominent as this one, with the comma-shaped crest on its head. This is a male California quail.

So I pulled out my camera and took a few photos before moving along on my way. He was o.k. with it, posing for me. Staying put on the MB2 sign.

Speaking of MB2, this Thousand Oaks location turns 10 years old this September.

Bunny Seen in the Skies on This Partly Cloudy Mother's Day in the Conejo Valley

BunnyCloud1.jpg

I was out walking the dog tonight, this 2018 Mother's Day Sunday evening in the Conejo Valley, when I looked up at the skies and did a double take. That looked like a bunny rabbit amidst the clouds.  The mother of all bunnies, looking down upon the Conejo Valley at the end of a beautiful, partly-cloudy Mother's Day Sunday.

100 Year Old Joyce From Newbury Park Fulfills Her Dream of Meeting Alex Trebek

"We're going to be all over social media" says Alex Trebek as he slowly walks 100 year old Joyce Pesner of Newbury Park back to the audience.

The Dream Foundation grants wishes for terminally ill adults, and Joyce's wish was to meet Alex. She has watched Jeopardy! every night before bed since the show has been on the air.

(Fellow Conejo Valley inhabitant and friend L David Irete was the lucky person who shot this video.)

Breaking News: Volcano Erupts on Conejo Grade in Thousand Oaks Easter Sunday

Hill north of the 101 on the Conejo Grade seen erupting as an active volcano this morning after millions of years in dormancy.

Hill north of the 101 on the Conejo Grade seen erupting as an active volcano this morning after millions of years in dormancy.

Thousand Oaks residents were startled this morning when a dormant volcano north of Highway 101 erupted.

Newbury Park resident Marvin Molten and his family were halfway up the Conejo Grade when the smoke started spewing out and the lava started flowing down the sides of the prominent hill north of the 101.

"We were on our way to grandma's house for Easter ham when we see this orange lava coming down the hill to the right," said Marvin's wife, Marcy. "We  stopped for a family selfie on the right shoulder, when the heat from the lava literally melted the See's Chocolate Easter Bunny in my daughter's lap. The melted chocolate made a huge mess all over the car!"

This Easter surprise lasted only about 10 minutes. Terry Tectonic of the National Weather Service in Oxnard indicated "the morning fog rolled in from Camarillo and put a damper on the lava flow;  thankfully now I can get back to my family's backyard Easter egg hunt."

Mandy Mantle was hiking on a nearby trail in the Conejo Open Space when she heard an explosion. She looked up and saw ashes flying everywhere. "For a second I thought it was Ash Wednesday," said Mantle.

Spectacular Sunset From the Conejo Valley Towards the Channel Islands on November 25, 2017

After several days of heatwave weather through Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday 2017, the temperatures are gradually cooling off and tonight we're seeing the cloud cover creeping up the Potrero Grade. I had the good fortune of witnessing tonight's beautiful sunset from Newbury Park, looking towards the Channel Islands. These images are captured in this video.

How to Change Background Themes In the New Firefox Quantum

For over a decade I've been a Firefox user but in recent years my Web browser usage has migrated more towards Google Chrome because Firefox has slowed and consumed too much memory. I frequently had to close and restart Firefox as it slowed and/or froze so frequently.

Today when I turned on my computer, Firefox installed version 57.0, Firefox Quantum. Mozilla says that it is better, faster and uses less memory! GOOD! They also say it is 30% "lighter" than Chrome, which alludes to memory usage. GREAT!

Hoping for the best with this new Firefox update! But one thing annoyed me when it first opened on my screen. The tabs were dark with white font. I don't like that. I right-clicked and messed around, hoping to change it back to the light background I was used to, to no avail. I searched the Web for answers and couldn't find anything quickly for mere mortals like myself.

Then I happened upon the quite simple answer and screenshotted it for those, like me, who aren't fans of change when forced upon us.

Here's the annoying (to me in any case) browser tabs and menu that came with the new Firefox Quantum. How to change it? Click the menu item and scroll to Customize.
