2019 City of Malibu Spring Hoppening Event on Friday, April 5th


The City of Malibu's Annual Spring Hoppening event is set for Friday, April 5, 2019 from 3-5:30 p.m. at Malibu Bluffs Park, 24250 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu. Free admission.

Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon filled with an egg hunt for children ages 1-10, bounce houses*, food trucks, crafts, photos with the Easter Bunny, crnival games and more!

Admission is free and pre-registration is not required. Limited parking on park site, additional parking along Malibu Canyon; please arrive early. Some games have an additional cost.

The XTERRA Boney Mountain Trail Run 21K/6K races have been rescheduled (due to the federal government shutdown) for Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa National Park in Newbury Park.

The 5K run starts at 8:30 a.m. and 1 mile family fun run starts at 9:30 a.m. at Ventura Community Park, 901 S. Kimball Road. Flat and fast course. All proceeds benefit VCBA and Ventura Co. Legal Aid, Inc., who provide legal services to the needy. The flat and fast race includes 12 age categories, with a first-place winner in each category.

Big Brother Big Sisters of Ventura County Golf Classic 2019

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) is excited to welcome hockey Hall of Famer and “Voice of the Kings” announcer Bob Miller as the celebrated host and keynote speaker for its 46th annual Golf Classic, presented by Select Workforce Specialists. The event, to be held Monday, April 29, 2019, at The Saticoy Club in Somis, California, helps deliver the funds necessary to support 1,500 local youth who are facing adversity.

“I am extremely honored and excited to be the celebrity host for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Golf Classic,” says Miller. “Now more than ever these youngsters need help and mentoring to realize their potential leading to a successful career in life. Positive reinforcement and guidance are so essential to our youth, especially these days, and I thank everyone who will be participating in this event.”

“[Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County] is in good hands with Bob Miller, he’ll be a great host!” said Vince Ferragamo, who hosted the tournament in 2017 and 2018, in a video to the agency and friends.

A day of play at the private 18-hole championship golf course, will be followed by evening festivities including dinner, live & silent auctions, and so much more. BBSVC is honored to have Bob Miller support BBSVC’s efforts. Funds generated go towards growth and professional support of BBSVC’s one-to-one mentoring and school site programs throughout the county.

16th Annual Superstars of the Year Celebration in Thousand Oaks on Sunday, March 17, 2019

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley (BGCGCV) will celebrate inspirational youth for their outstanding achievements during the 16th Annual Superstars of the Year Celebration on Sunday, March 17, 2019. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the show runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event, free and open to the public, will take place at the Performing Arts Education Center at Agoura High School.

The special celebration will include the announcement of the 2018 Youth of the Year Awards in two categories: 13 years old and under, and 14 years old and over. Volunteers who have a made a positive impact on the Boys & Girls Clubs will also be recognized for their contributions. In addition, the winner of the annual BGCGCV Barstaad Award will be presented, an award that honors an individual who has served as an advocate for the clubs and who understands the importance of having a safe place for members to go after school.

Other event highlights include a variety show featuring club members who will perform dance and musical numbers they have learned through the BGCGCV Music Performing Arts Program. Some 300 people are expected to attend the celebration and light refreshments will be available.

For nearly 70 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year program has honored and celebrated the nation’s most inspiring youth and their incredible journeys. Stories of outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle have made Youth of the Year the premier leadership and recognition program for youth.
