Ventura County "East County Sheriff Watch" Update March 21, 2011

Here is the latest "East County Sheriff Watch" alert from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. This program is designed to target unincorporated neighborhoods in the area, such as Oak Park, Bell Canyon, Lynn Ranch, Casa Conejo and Lake Sherwood. If you would like these updates directly from him via email, click here for more information.

Daylight savings has come again, leading to longer evenings.  With the extra daylight, please don’t be lulled into leaving your valuable property in your vehicles and forget to lock them.

We continue to be barraged with vehicle burglaries all over the unincorporated areas, including Casa Conejo, Oak Park and Lynn Ranch.

In regards to vehicle burglaries, the residents of Oak Park continue to be targeted by vehicle burglars.  The detective bureau has requested that you please look at the following photographs of two suspects who are suspected of committing vehicle burglaries in Oak Park and the vehicle they are using.  If you recognize the suspects or the vehicle, please call Detective Russ King at 805 494-8224 or contact the Sheriff’s Office at 805 654-9511 and have a deputy respond to pass the information along.

A post on Facebook prompted one recent local residential burglary.  The Facebook post stated that the soon to be victim was out of town with his family.  This prompted the burglars to break into the victim’s residence and take among other things, a laptop computer.  This particular laptop had GPS software and was able to lead the Sheriff’s investigators to the burglars’ hotel room, where they were arrested for possessing stolen property.  The moral to this story be careful what you post on your social network accounts, because you never know who is monitoring your information. In Oak Park we continue to have vandalisms and burglaries at our local schools.  Medea Creek Middle School was a victim of a burglary and the high school has had several incidents raging from thefts from lockers to vandalisms to the campus.  Please keep an eye for vandals to our schools during the weekend and evenings, in an effort to keep our schools safe from these types of events.

In the Lake Sherwood area, there was a recent incident where an unknown suspect(s) stole a stereo and steering wheel from a pontoon boat, stored on the lake.  If you have any information to help solve this crime, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 805 654-9511.

A stolen vehicle was recovered in the Lynn Ranch area.  The vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Los Angeles, was recovered in the 1600 Block of Calle Yucca.  It appears the vehicle had been stolen in an effort to remove parts of the vehicle for resale.

In the Casa Conejo area, a residential burglary occurred in the 500 block of Jenny Drive, and there was also an attempt burglary on the same street.  At this time there is no suspect information to pass along.  If you have any information, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 805 654-9511
