TOPD City Watch 6/30/10 Update on Recent Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park Auto Vandalism Incidents

Here is the latest "City Watch" alert from Deputy Jim DeSoto of the Thousand Oaks Police Department. If you would like these updates directly from him via email, click here for more information.

Crime Fighters,

Here is the update on the multiple vehicle break-ins that we experienced Monday night through Tuesday morning (June 28th-29th). There were at least twenty vehicle vandalisms or vehicle break-ins. Most of the crimes were vandalisms where the victims had their vehicle windows smashed by different objects such as bricks, large rocks, and a potted plant. Items were taken from some of the vehicles but it seems that the intent of this crime spree was to commit vandalisms to as many vehicles as possible.***(Street names below)

In an event that happened, one of the suspects opened a car door but unbeknownst to the suspect, the victim was inside the vehicle smoking a cigarette. The suspect was obviously surprised, ran off and the victim gave chase but the suspects were able to get away.

The crimes happened in the early morning hours between 2am and 3:30am. The victims described the suspects’ vehicle as a small dark colored Japanese four-door compact. The suspects were four males in their early twenties. At this time there is no further information.

If you have any information regarding these crimes, please contact detectives at 805-494-8201 or report the information to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS or go to the Crime Stoppers Website at www.venturacountycrimestoppers.org. Undoubtedly, there are teenagers and young adults who did not participate in these crimes but know who are responsible for them. Let’s get them to help us!

Take care, Jim (DeSoto)

*** Note from Conejo Joe: I asked Deputy DeSoto for the locations of these incidents, so here they are: Maple Road, Beech Road, Fowler, La Grange, Meadow Crest, Dearborn, Holloway, Bearclaw, Eaglesnest, Charlotte, Grand Oaks and Avenida de las Flores.
