Studio Channel Islands Art Center "Shot Through the Heart" Photo Exhibit July 2-30

Studio Channel Islands Art Center presents the "Shot Through the Heart: New Photos" photography exhibit from July 2nd through July 30th. An award ceremony and opening reception will take place on Saturday, July 2nd from 4pm to 6pm at 2222 Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.

"Tavern Parking" by Candace Biggerstaff

This exhibition was juried by Stephen Schafer of Schaf Photo in Ventura, who commented, “It was a challenge to distill the entries in this show. The images that rose to the top were clearly more complex than a 'lucky snapshot' and many had double meanings, multiple subjects and unique emotional messages in addition to being well executed photographs.”

Included in this exhibit are works by Candace Biggerstaff, John Brown, Maria Erlichman, John Ferritto, Paul Geiger, Lucia Grossberger Morales, Sandor Havasi, Fred Magnus, Susan Magnus, Ron Matson, Bryan McCall, Janet Milhomme, Carol Phillip, Cherie Phoenix, Doug Rucker, Gary Sparks and Carl Volpe.

About the Juror: Mr. Schafer ("Schaf") received his education from the renowned Brooks Institute of Photography and the University of Cape Town, South Africa. His career has allowed him to travel and work worldwide. He is currently focused on architectural photography specializing in “Really Big Things.” Schaf has been honored with numerous awards and his work is in the collections of the City of Ventura and the Museum of Ventura County, as well as the Library of Congress. He has taught all levels of photography and lectures on infrared photography.
