Colbie Caillat Performs Makes Thousand Oaks Debut on Valentines Day

Colbie Caillat Makes Thousand Oaks Debut on Valentines Day

UPDATE 2/11/12: CONCERT SOLD OUT (NO SURPRISE)

The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Foundation presents COLBIE CAILLAT in the Fred Kavli Theatre at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

Colbie Caillat’s wish has been granted: to perform in her hometown, Thousand Oaks. The pop-soul singersongwriter, who currently lives in Westlake Village, was interviewed by the Ventura County Star last summer. She was quoted as saying “I wish I got to play more in our hometown — Santa Barbara Bowl, Ventura, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza — having all my family and friends come, so it’s local, and getting the whole SoCal vibe.” Thousand Oaks welcomes Colbie with open arms and is ready for her Civic Arts Plaza debut on Valentine’s Day.

Caillat is on a national tour in support of her newly-released third album, “All of You,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and was No. 1 on the digital charts when it was released July 12. On this tour she’s singing her popular older hits along with new ones from the latest album, including “Brighter Than the Sun” and the romantic “I Do.” Similarly, her song “What If,” featured in the film Letters to Juliet, suggests that first loves, whether real or fantasy, can stir feelings that endure for years.

Caillat’s debut album “Coco” debuted at No. 5 and raced its way past the multi-Platinum barrier. Her first single, “Bubbly,” caught a generation’s imagination and has become one of the best-selling digital tracks of all time. Billboard took note by naming Caillat its Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Fittingly, “Breakthrough” broke at No. 1 and was honored with two Grammy nominations; that same year, Colbie won two Grammys for her collaborations with Jason Mraz and Taylor Swift. She has sung the national anthem on the kickoff to the 2011 NFL season and performed at the Nobel Peace Concert in Oslo. She and her original music have been featured in commercials for cotton and in ABC Family Channel’s “25 Days of Christmas,” whose theme song she wrote and arranged.

Although her music is acoustic, the arrangements go much deeper, culling from classical folk, jazz, and pop, many with an easy California laid back vibe. Caillat puts her own personal experiences and feelings into “All of You.” Having a Valentine’s Day show is so appropriate, given the fact that Caillat wrote and recorded the album while her relationship grew with Justin Young, who plays guitar in her band. They even cowrote a few of the tunes together, and their love springs up in the music. “When we had video treatments for ‘I Do’ come in from directors, everyone wanted to do a wedding scene,” Colbie says. “But it’s not about getting married, it’s about saying ‘I love you.’ Another songwriting partner, close friend and musician Jason Reeves, again worked with Caillat on the latest album. He said Caillat has always been writing songs about love, but “she’s now definitely in love, and it’s coming through in the music. It’s at its strongest and most real right now.”

Single tickets are $45-65 and are available from Ticketmaster (800-745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com) or the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Box Office, located at 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard. For information call 805-449-ARTS (2787) or visit www.civicartsplaza.com.
