Summer Safety Event at the Thousand Oaks Farmers' Market on Thursday, May 31st

It’s that time of year when families start planning summer vacations and prepare to leave their homes. Is your home safe and adequately secured?  In order to help residents learn more about overall safety, the Thousand Oaks Farmers’ Market is partnering with the City of Thousand Oaks to host a Community Outreach Program promoting safety on Thursday, May 31.

Initiated by Thousand Oaks Police Department Police Chief, Randy Pentis, the event will take place during normal Farmer’s Market hours, with the main activities scheduled between 3 to 6 p.m. Individuals will have the opportunity to meet the Chief in person and ask questions about the department.  The Mobile Command Post will be onsite and staffed with the on-duty patrol deputy representing the area.

Information on home safety will be available including a vacation checklist for people to refer to when securing their homes before leaving for extended periods of time.  Child safety information will also be shared from learning how to stay safe on the internet to child safety fingerprinting, and the importance of helmets when riding bicycles.  Coloring books will be handed out to kids.  The police K-9 units will be on hand in addition to McGruff, the crime dog.

“We are so pleased to be the host site for this very important event,” stated Karen Schott, Operations Manager for the Ventura County Certified Farmers’ Market Association.  “We welcome the public to come out, enjoy the day while picking up some very valuable information,” she added.

The Thousand Oaks Farmers’ Market is held Thursdays at The Oaks Shopping Center at the east end Parking Lot, Wilbur Road and Thousand Oaks Boulevard from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m.
