Free Movies on the Green in Woodland Hills, Saturday Nights, July 13 to August 24

The Valley Cultural Center and Shelley's Stereo and Video is bringing Hollywood’s finest to the great outdoors at Warner Ranch Park in Woodland Hills for Movies on the Green. Grab your blankets, lawn chairs, family, and friends and settle down for a summer’s worth of family entertainment plus all the amenities you enjoy for free. (Movie titles subject to change.)

Films will be presented on a 30-foot professional theatrical screen with digital projection, surround-sound, and high-resolution digital picture. 44th Annual Westlake Village 4th of July Parade and Party in the Park

City of Westlake Village’s 44th Annual 4th of July Parade

The 44th annual City of Westlake Village 4th of July Parade will line up at 9:30 AM and process down the decorated 4-block route at 9:45 AM.

Participants are encouraged to decorate their bike, scooter, skateboard, or wagon in patriotic colors and join the City of Westlake Village for this wonderful patriotic celebration! Residents are also welcome to cheer participants on from the side of the parade route.

New this year: a contest for the most patriotic costumed non-motorized vehicle, pet, adult, and child. Please arrive at the former Westlake Medical Center by 9:15 am in order to be entered into the contest. Judging will take place at 9:30 am and winners will be announced at the park following the Flag Retirement Ceremony.

But wait! Before the parade, starting at 8am, Boy Scout Troop #752’s pancake breakfast will take place at the former Westlake Village Medical Center Property at 4415 Lakeview Canyon at 8:00 am. Breakfast tickets are available for $5 per person or $20 per family on the day of the event or by calling Lee Mackay at 805-914-9701.

The event begins at the former Westlake Village Mecdical Center site at the corner of Lakeview Canyon Road and Agoura Road and marches down the 4-block Agoura Road route to Berniece Bennett Park.

Once the parade arrives at the park there will be a U.S. flag retirement ceremony performed by a local Boy Scout Troup, followed by music, inflatables, old-fashioned games and free popsicles and water. The Rotary will be on hand selling hot dogs and snacks, with proceeds benefiting a local charity.

8th Annual Ventura County Summerfest and 5K Run/Walk in Ventura on Saturday, June 1

The 8th Annual, “summerfest” community celebration of healthy living, presented by Ventura Education Partnership (VEP) and the Ventura Unified School District is quickly approaching! This year's FREE event will be on Saturday, June 1st from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event will be held at the VUSD Education Service Center, 255 W. Stanley Ave., Ventura.

Attendees will enjoy visiting more than fifty community, sports and health booths provided by our local community of businesses, non-profits, sports and service organizations. All festivities focus on engaging children and their families to become and stay fit, active and healthy. Funds raised from “summerfest 2013” will help support school nutrition and physical activity programs as well as VEP Health and Wellness Grants. It is a free, family-friendly event with the following activities:
  • Live Stage with entertainment and demonstrations to get you movin'
  • Sports Clinics for children of all ages
  • Sports Physicals for middle and high school youth
  • Health, Gardening, & Fitness Vendors with a lot of cool give-aways and good ideas to keep you healthy

2013 Camarillo Fiesta Association Fiesta & Street Fair, July 11th to 14th

The Camarillo Fiesta & Street Fair is a large community celebration in Old Town Camarillo along Ventura Boulevard to be held July 11th through 14th. This event features carnival rides, food and crafts vendors, entertainment, car show, kids' activities, carnival rides and a beer and wine garden. We've been to this event a number of times and always enjoy the live music and carnival setting.

35th Annual Ventura County Greek Festival in Camarillo June 21-23, 2013

The 35th Annual Ventura County Greek Festival, held next to the Camarillo Airport, takes place June 21st through 23rd 2013. The event is presented by St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and features live Greek music, folk dancing, food, delicious pastries and baklava, vendors and a kids' play area. The food at this event is DELICIOUS!

Conejo Recreation and Park District "Fishing Frenzy" in Thousand Oaks on August 3rd

GoldfishThe Conejo Recreation and Park District is hosting its annual Fishing Frenzy event at Conejo Creek North Park at 1379 East Janss Road (behind Thousand Oaks Library) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 3rd.

They will be releasing hundreds of magnetic fish into the creek and children will be given magnetic fishing poles to catch them! No bait required! Fish with a magnetic pole, do arts and crafts and explore Captain Carl's Mobile Tidepool. Per child fee was $5 in 2012 and is TBA in 2013.

The City of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services Program is offering hands-on children activities and public tours at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site.  Docent-led tours of the Reyes Adobe, barn and museum will be available on the second and fourth Saturdays from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.  Children activities (geared towards ages 3 to 8) are offered on the 2nd Saturday from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m and are free.

Public, educational and group programs are available throughout the year and offer a variety of ways to discover our region’s unique legacy through guided tours, interactive exhibits and special events.  Suggested donations for the tour are: Adults $3.00, Seniors $2.00, Children 5-12 $1.00, and children under 5 free. Reyes Adobe is located at 30400 Rainbow Crest Drive, Agoura Hills.
