Simi Valley Days 2008 - 9/10 to 9/14

The Simi Valley Days carnival will take place this year at Rancho Simi Park, 1765 Royal Avenue, at the corner of Royal and Erringer (new location this year). The event will be held Wed/Thurs, September 10 and 11 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday the 12th from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday the 13th from noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday the 14th from noon to 9 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for kids ages 4 to 12 (free for 3 and under) and $3 for seniors over 60. The carnival features a parade on Saturday morning, entertainment, carnival rides, food, merchants, crafts and lots of fun!

This is the 24th consecutive Simi Valley Days, which generally celebrates the City's birthday of October 10, 1969. Wow, that means next year's event will be a big deal...25th annual event and 40th birthday!

Inaugural Citrus Classic Balloon Festival in Santa Paula - 7/25-7/26

The first ever Citrus Classic Balloon Festival will take place at the Santa Paula Airport, 340 East Santa Maria Street, on Friday and Saturday, July 25-26, from 5 p.m to 10 p.m. on Friday and 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for kids ages 5-14 and kids under 5 are free. Parking is $5. This very unique event features balloon "glows" on Friday evening, live music, vendors and kids' activities. On Saturday morning from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. there will be mass balloon ascensions, followed by fun, entertainment, hot air balloon education, a mouth-watering tri-tip lunch, hare and hound races and other fun stuff. Oh, and how could I forget the wine and beer garden! I truly wish I could attend this event but have other plans! So let Conejo Joe know what it was like if you go!

Santa Paula Citrus Festival - 7/18-7/20

The 41st Annual Santa Paula Citrus Festival will be held at Harding Park, 1330 E. Harvard Boulevard, on Friday, July 18th (5 p.m. to 11 p.m.) and Saturday/Sunday, July 19/20 (noon to 11 p.m.). Santa Paula is known as the Citrus Capital of the World! The event features food contests, entertainment, all types of musical performers, food, rides, vendors, beer garden, a parade, etc. Event is organized by the Santa Paula Kiwanis Club. Admission is only $5 for adults and $1 for kids.

The Festival's Citrus and Avocado Pavilion is packed with information and displays about the fruit of California, citrus ranching, and our agricultural heritage. Local growers, ag companies, and packing houses invite you to see how they bring the best produce in Ventura County from the orchards and fields to your crisper and dinner table. The Citrus & Avocado Pavilion is located to the left as you enter the Festival inside the Boys and Girls Club building. Don’t miss it!

The Palms Super Slide Water Park in Woodland Hills (Until 8/17)

The Palms Super Slide Water Park is located just off the 101 freeway in Woodland Hills at 23210 Ventura Boulevard (corner of Ventura Boulevard and Woodlake Avenue). The Palms is full of inflatable rides with water, including an 80 foot obtstacle course and a 30 foot "triple drop" slide. The cost is $20 per person for ages 2-99 and includes an "all day" wristband that gets you into the park during the hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Adults who are just accompanying their kids but who do not go on the rides are free.

The Palms is only open until August 17th according to management, so check it out soon or you'll miss out! There is also a snack bar with pizza, hot dogs, pretzels, lemonade and other scrumptious delicacies.

The Palms does not have a website but you can call 818.225.2496 for more information. Apparently celebrity Denise Richards visited The Palms with her daughters as evidenced here. Have fun!
