2012 Relay for Life of Thousand Oaks on May 19th-20th

Have you vowed to make 2012 the year to make a difference? Well now you have your chance to follow through on your resolution and participate in the American Cancer Society's 2012 Relay For Life of Thousand Oaks event.

Thousand Oaks City Councilmember Thomas P. Glancy is the Honorary Chair for the 2012 Relay For Life of Thousand Oaks. This year’s event marks the 15th year anniversary of Relay For Life in the Conejo Valley area.  Councilmember Tom Glancy is a 30 year Thousand Oaks resident who appreciates the efforts and necessity to support cancer research.  He is a cancer survivor, and has participated in Relay For Life of Thousand Oaks for over 5 years.

The American Cancer Society is looking for anyone who wants to honor cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) and caregivers, or pay tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer.

To get things started, the Relay For Life of Thousand Oaks Community Rally will be held on Monday, February 27, 2012, at the Thousand Oaks Library, from 6 pm to 7 pm.  All interested participants, families, caregivers, companies, schools, etc. are invited to the rally to get involved, sign up for activities, and educate themselves about one of the American Cancer Society's biggest fundraisers.

For those unfamiliar with Relay For Life, it is an overnight community effort where individuals and teams camp out, socialize and take turns walking around a track relay style to raise funds to fight cancer. As day turns to night, participants will light hundreds of luminaria around the track in an inspiring ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members who have died from the disease. The Relay For Life event represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

Relay For Life of Thousand Oaks will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012, starting at 10:00 am to Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Conejo Creek Park South, Thousand Oaks.
