Port of Hueneme Educational Tours

The Port of Hueneme is open to the public for tours Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. School tours are particularly encouraged. No group is too small, however a comfortable size can range up to 25. Groups larger than 25 can be accommodated with advance arrangements. To arrange a tour of the Port, please call (805) 488-3677.

The Port of Hueneme offers an excellent educational experience for students of all ages with tour content tailored to meet the educational needs of elementary, secondary and post secondary educational levels. Tours are generally divided into two sections, inside classroom style presentation followed by an outside tour by motorcoach. In general port tours take approximately an hour and a half to two hours but can be shortened to accommodate class schedules.

The Oxnard Harbor District is an independent special district (business enterprise) a political subdivision of the State of California which owns and operates the commercial Port of Hueneme. The District was created in 1937 under authority of an act of the legislature of the State of California which provides for the formation of Harbor Districts.

Over $7 billion in cargo value moves through the Port of Hueneme each year. The Port of Hueneme is one of the Nation’s busiest banana importing ports and included in the nation’s top ten automobile importing ports. Top trading partners include: Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Germany, Sweden, Japan and Korea.

Port related activity generates over $650 million into Ventura County’s economy each year, at no cost to the taxpayer. Additionally 4,500 jobs in Ventura County are directly or indirectly related to the Port of Hueneme's activities.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Oxnard and Port Hueneme

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oxnard and Port Hueneme has been providing quality programs to youth since 1954. The two clubs merged in 1997 to become the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. In 2004 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme opened 9 new school sites and in 2006 it added 11 additional sites in the Ocean View, Hueneme and Rio School Districts. Currently the Club has 3 full service clubhouses, one Public Housing Unit and 13 school sites. Samuelsson Clubhouse, the historic club located on 7th street, reopened on June 11, 2007. 53 years after it had originally opened. The Martin V. Smith Clubhouse opened in October of 2001. In addition, the first club located in a Juvenile facility in the state of California opened in January 2007 at the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Facility.
