BUMMER! SUKI 7 CLOSED IN MAY 2009!! :<
My wife and I dined at Suki 7 at 925 S. Westlake Boulevard in Westlake Village last Saturday night. We had reservations at 6:30 p.m. and when we got there the restaurant was only about a third full. We were given the choice of a table/booth or the sushi bar and we quickly decided on the sushi bar after taking a quick glance at how large and unique it was. Suki 7 is located where the old Cisco's that burned down used to reside.
The sushi bar is huge and has these large, comfortable swiveling green chairs that are nearly a foot apart from each other. We enjoyed chatting with the women sitting to our right while having plenty of distance from them to have our private conversation. Above the rectangular shaped sushi bar are lights that are hung from what appear to be tree logs. There are interesting and unique designs and features throughout the entire restaurant.
On the other side of the restaurant is a nightclub that I've heard is a quite a hotspot. Unfortunately for us old folk we didn't get a chance to check it out as we had little ones awaiting us. But next time we'll have to explore the action. We'll have to take our Geritol first.
I have been a sushi fan for 25 years and have found it more and more difficult to find really, really good, mouthwatering sushi, that has the right consistency, taste and freshness. Not many places completely fit the bill for me. But everything I tried at Suki 7 was delicious, including the salmon sushi, spicy tuna roll, halibut and the rice-free "salmon delight" roll. The sushi was somewhat pricier it seemed than other local places but this was really high quality stuff, well worth it.
My wife also ordered the filet mignon, which came with green onion "smashed" potatoes (since when did they smash them instead of mash them...I dunno). I gladly accepted her offer of partaking in her entree and it was also thoroughly delicious. Accompanying the meal was edaname (soybeans) and miso soup. All in all, our tummies and taste buds were happy campers with this meal.
As we were leaving and exploring the outdoor seating and fire pits, my wife grabbed my arm and said, "hey, how about if we call this 'our place,'" meaning she liked it so much that she actually wants to bookmark it (in web browser parlance) as a restaurant we come back to time and time again as a couple. It was so good that I said, "sure."
