Lucky Find: Lucky's Dog House in Thousand Oaks and Moorpark

I'm generally a pretty healthy eater, making weekly salad bar visits to Souplantation, eating veggie sandwiches at Jersey Mike's and opting for cottage cheese and peaches more often than steak (did I actually admit to that!?).
Buy by gawd, when I'm in the mood for a great hot dog, I'm driving back to Lucky's Dog House at the Janss Marketplace (between Cold Stone and Akio's, across from Toys R Us).
My wife and kids were at Janss and I was planning to meet them for sushi when my wife changed the plans to eat at Lucky's. She and the kids had eaten there before and enjoyed it. It was a Friday early evening and while my taste buds were craving salmon sushi, I thought, hmm, for the price of that one order of sushi I'll try a hot dog. My expectation level was very low. A little hole-in-the-wall hot dog place. Just a hot dog. And onion rings.
First bite of the dog was a gentle snap and I instantly knew this was one damn good hot dog! The hot dog was tasty and snapped in my mouth with each bite. The bun was fresh and was a good accompanyment to the dog. I ordered the "Lucky Dog" which comes with chili, cheese and onions. Delicious. And the onion rings were perfectly crunchy and mouth-watering.
I managed to try some of my kids' french fries and they were also excellent. Wasn't able to try their burgers as they inhaled them. My wife...I can't even remember what she ordered but she was enjoying it.
The price is right at Lucky's. Kids' Meals are only $4.25 and include choice off grilled cheese, corn dog, hot dog, burger or chicken nuggets plus fries and small drink. Nice selection of burgers too. I'll have to try the Garden (Veggie) Burger next time I'm there.
Luckys is also located in Moorpark at 14711 Princeton Ave., #14 (near Moorpark College). Phone is 805.523.0128. The Thousand Oaks phone number is 805.449.1745.

The steak sandwich is amazing to. Go for the grilled onions too! My family and I have been customers for over 20 years when it use to be in the little yellow house on High Street.
I was drooling while I read this post. I love hot dogs and I'm very picky when it comes to brand of hot dogs. I admire your eating habit. I really should try to eat more veggies and yogurt. Neway, love this post. =)
