Planned Hikes in the Conejo Open Space

Scheduled Group Outings in the Conejo Open Space

Outings in the Conejo Open Space are offered by various organizations and hike leaders including (but not limited to) the Conejo Recreation and Park District, the Conejo Group Sierra Club, and the Outdoors Club. Hillcrest Open Space Loop - CRPD Open Space Appreciation Hike
Sat, May 18, 9:00am – 11:30am
Free! Age 14+ Moderately Strenuous 5 mile loop. Elevation gain/loss about 1300 feet. Hillcrest Ridge and White Sage Trails connect at both the north and south ends, making a loop hike-route with 360° views of Thousand Oaks and the surrounding area. Hillcrest Ridge Trail has many up and down sections – a couple are very steep. East on Janss Rd to LaGranada. Continue driving to trailhead at end of La Granada. Park on street. Oak Creek Canyon/Los Robles/Los Padres Trails - CRPD Open Space Appreciation Hike

Free! Age 12+ Moderate 5 mile loop. Elevation gain/loss about 900 ft. Enjoy pleasant trails through open space, views of the Conejo Valley and a snack break at a trailside picnic table under the oak trees. From south end of Moorpark Rd, turn right on Greenmeadow. Woodridge Trail to Sunset Hills Loop - CRPD Open Space Appreciation Hike
Sat, July 20, 2013, 8am – 10am
Free! Age 12+ Moderate 4 mile round trip hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000 ft. Hike the hills near the urban area of northeastern Thousand Oaks, with sweeping vistas of Bard Reservoir, and, on a clear day, a view of distant mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Arroyo Conejo to Hill Canyon - CRPD Open Space Appreciation Hike
Sat, August 17, 2013, 8:00am – 10:30am
Free! Age 12+ Moderate 5 mile round trip hike. Elevation gain/loss about 400 ft. Follow the trail from Newbury Park to Hill Canyon Water Treatment Plant. Pleasant scenery along the Barranca and through riparian native plant communities. Return by way of same trails. There are five creek crossings in each direction – all on rock fords or floating pallet-bridges. From 101, drive ¼ mile north on Ventu Park Rd. Turn right at Rancho Conejo Playfields. Oakbrook Vista to Scenic Overlook - CRPD Open Space Appreciation Hike

Free! Age 12+ Moderate 4 mile round trip hike with an elevation gain/loss of about 1000 ft. Hike single-track trails that overlook the northeastern Conejo Valley, Lang Ranch Open Space, and Hidden Meadow. After a snack break at a scenic-view point, return by way of the same trails. From Avenida de los Arboles, drive south on Westlake Bl, then left on Lang Ranch Parkway 0.2 miles. Park on the right (south) side of Lang Ranch Parkway. White Horse Canyon to Los Robles Trail - CRPD Open Space Appreciation Hike

Free! Age 12+ Moderate 6 mile loop. Elevation gain/loss about 1000 ft. Hike from Protrero Rd to Los Robles Trail. Trail is rocky in some places, but well cleared. Nice views of the Los Robles trail system, T.O., lakes, and mountains. From Westlake Bl drive west on Potrero 0.4mi. Park on south side of Potrero, east of the bridge. Wildwood Canyon to Canyon Overlook-Lizard Rock Loop - CRPD Open Space Appreciation Hike
Sat, November 16, 2013, 9:00am – 11:30am
Free! Age 12+ Moderate 4½ mile loop. Elevation gain/loss about 1000 ft. Moonridge & Wildwood Canyon Trails to Stagecoach Bluff & Canyon Overlook Trails to the ridge overlooking Wildwood, Box Canyon, Santa Rosa Valley and Hill Canyon. Return by way of Lizard Rock and Mesa Trails. Drive to west end of Avenida de Los Arboles. Lang Ranch - Autumn Ridge / Albertson Motorway Loop - CRPD Open Space Appreciation Hike
Sat, December 21, 2013, 9am – 12pm
Free! Age 14+ Moderately-Strenuous 6 mile loop. Elevation gain/loss about 1500 ft. This loop travels through much of the Lang Ranch Open Space with nice scenery and lots of elevation changes. I'm so envious of all these hikes. Alas, we are all covered in snow right now so snowshoeing will have to do. You can learn so much about an area when you take a hike with an expert that knows about the area.

Me too Kimberley.I would love to have these hiking trips and the amazing thing is that you learn a lot from these different hiking program whether it is full moon hike or wildflower hike.
