The Janss Marketplace at the corner of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks is a nice alternative to The Oaks mall. This is an open air mall that was upgraded a few years ago to include a large outdoor eating area, several water fountains the kids enjoy and a large parking structure.
There is an interesting variety of businesses in this mall, from a large, nicely appointed Gold's Gym to Mann Movie Theaters to Toys R Us, Mervyns and various restaurants. There's also Sears, Old Navy, Marshall's and Linens and Things. Akio's Sushi has been in this mall for years and has always been one of my favorite sushi places in town (and one of the oldest and most comfortable feeling sushi bars in town).
There's also Buca di Beppo, a huge, popular Bandit's BBQ adjacent to the mall, Panera Bread which has wonderful sandwiches on freshly baked breads, TGI Friday's, Fuddruckers and an adjacent El Torito.
The Simoniz Janss Mall Car Wash is open at 8 a.m. Go there first, gas up the car and get it nice and clean. Relax with the morning newspaper at Coffee N Dreams. Do some shopping (most stores open around 9 to 10 a.m.) for a few hours. Look for some bargains at the Tuesday Morning store.
By now you're ready for lunch, but wait, let's hit the gym first. Spend an hour at Gold's Gym or United Studios of Self Defense (martial arts) and you're ready to consume more calories. You want something quick and cheap so try a fish taco combo at Rubio's Mexican Grill. Stop by Sears to buy some tools and appliances and afterwards see a movie at the Mann Theater. By the time you're done, you're ready for a sit down meal at Buca di Beppo. It is now 8 p.m. and you're ready to go home, after grabbing a fancy ice cream concoction at Cold Stone Creamery.
In Summer 2007 the mall introduced an interactive fountain, music and light show that operates a number of times each day (call for show times).

There is alot to do at Janss Marketplace. You forgot one place that is alot of fun. "Simply Ceramics". It is right across from Gold's Gym. It is great for kids and not so young kids! Alot of room. Tables to seat as few as 2 up to the big table in the party room. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. You don't feel rushed. A place to sit and relax, paint your ceramic pieces.
