The Janss Marketplace at 275 North Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks (corner of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest) is a nice alternative to The Oaks mall.  This is an open air mall that was upgraded a few years ago to include a large outdoor eating area, several water fountains the kids enjoy, monthly Kids Fun Zone and an outdoor kids play area and a large parking structure.

There is an interesting variety of businesses in this mall, from a large, nicely appointed Gold's Gym to Mann Movie Theaters to Toys R Us and various restaurants.  There's also Sears, Old Navy, Marshall's and Riverland Clothing.  Akio's Sushi has been in this mall for years and has always been one of my favorite sushi places in town (and one of the oldest and most comfortable feeling sushi bars in town). Note from Conejo Joe:  The Mervyns and Linens and Things in the Janss Marketplace were closed down in 2008 due to bankruptcies.  Bummer! Update 5/10...sshhh...I hear there's a soon to be named new tenant planned for the old Mervyns space...stay tuned...

There's also Buca di Beppo, a huge, popular Bandit's BBQ adjacent to the mall, Panera Bread which has wonderful sandwiches on freshly baked breads, TGI Friday's and an adjacent El Torito.  Next to Buca di Beppo is a Daphne's Greek Cafe.

There's also an interactive fountain, music and light show that operates a number of times each day (call for show times).
